I-Animal is a non profit organization that raises awareness and promote the well-being of all animals of Curacao through education.

I_Animal focus is on sharing as much information as possible to promote animal well-being in the most complete way as possible. This is done by giving lessons at schools, sharing info in neighborhood, placing billboards around the island, presenting at radio and television programs, organizing events and shows where the main focus again is on education.

Most people think sea turtles d*e in storms. That's wrong. They d*e in silence.
Along the Texas Gulf Coast, winter cold snaps turn shallow water deadly overnight. When temperatures drop too fast, sea turtles become cold-stunned. Their bodies shut down. They float, unable to swim or lift their heads to breathe. Alive, but trapped.
This is where Brandon Upton comes in. Around 2018, he spotted dark shapes drifting in the water while working offshore. They weren't debris. They were turtles—Kemp's ridleys, greens, endangered animals freezing in place. He learned the protocol and didn't walk away.
For seven winters, he kept going back out. Cold mornings. Shallow bays. Marsh edges. No cameras. No rescue crews. Just a captain pulling motionless turtles onto his boat, one by one, and rushing them to rehabilitation teams for slow, controlled warming. Over time, the number climbed past 500 turtles saved.
This wasn't a heroic moment. It was a habit. A decision to notice what most people pass by. Conservation doesn't always look like policy or protest. Sometimes it looks like local knowledge, repetition, and showing up every time the water turns cruel. Because for those turtles, survival didn't come from luck. It came from someone paying attention.

Food for thought: Chihuahua: It Scores High for Aggression in Behaviour Studies, and the Explanation Is Not in the Dog
On canine behaviour scales, the Chihuahua scores above average for aggression, both towards people and towards other dogs. The data is real. The way we usually read it is wrong.
Start with size. An adult Chihuahua stands 15 to 23 centimetres tall and weighs between 1.8 and 3 kilos. It lives in a world where absolutely everything is bigger than it is: a chair, a child, a cat, a stranger who suddenly crouches down to pet it. What would be a neutral situation for a German Shepherd is a constant threat for him.
Then add what we do.
Chihuahuas are rarely socialised. They are not taken to the park to meet other dogs because "he's so small, he could get hurt". They are not trained because "he can't bite hard anyway". They are carried in arms instead of being allowed to walk, which strips them of their natural way of reading a situation and deciding whether to approach or retreat.
And when they growl, we laugh and film it.
That is the exact point. If a thirty-kilo dog growls at a visitor, everyone understands the behaviour needs work. If the one growling weighs two kilos, it becomes a funny video. The behaviour is identical. The difference is that one frightens us and the other strikes us as cute. Nobody teaches a Chihuahua anything, because nobody thinks it is necessary.
Its history says something too. The Chihuahua most likely descends from the techichi, a companion dog of the Toltec civilisation. Figures of similar dogs have been found at the Cholula archaeological site, and the oldest records date to the ninth century. It is one of the oldest breeds on the American continent, and the Fédération Cynologique Internationale made its Spanish name official in 1911.
That dog, with more than a thousand years of history, ended up in the early 2000s as a celebrity accessory, poking out of handbags on red carpets. And when the fashion passed, what always happens happened: the shelters.
This is not a nervous dog. It is a small dog we never let be a dog.

Breaking News!

The ever adorable kākāpō has seen it's total population rise to a confirmed 325 individuals after a bumper breeding season!

90 chicks from the 2026 breeding season have now been added to the total numbered population after reaching 150 days old. The last breeding season was in 2022 which makes this the first rise of population in 4 years and the biggest since kākāpō were feared extinct in the 1970's

The Kākāpō Recovery has done immense work to bring this critically endangered taonga back from the brink.
