Avon River Arts A Community of Artists and Artisans

Through a number of gallery shows, and regular events and activities we create opportunities for local artists to sell and display their work. Our membership is open to all Nova Scotian artists and artisans and our events and activities primary take place in communities along the Avon River. The goals of Avon River Arts are:
•To increase the understanding and appreciation of arts and culture.
•To

promote excellence amoung artists and to provide encouragement to groups and individuals in the community who are involved in the arts.
•To create educational and networking opportunities in support of arts and culture

September 5–27 | Artists’ Landing Gallery, Avon River Heritage & Culture Centre

This September, we’re turning the lens toward the talented photographers of the Avon River Camera Club!

Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, September 5th from 2–4 PM in the Artists’ Landing Gallery and meet the photographers behind the images. The exhibition brings together six distinctive perspectives, from sweeping landscapes and wildlife to quiet details, rural life and the stories hidden in everyday scenes.

Featuring photographs by Paul Gambling, Donna Jean Smith, Robert Saturno, Rosie Hare, Lexie Barkhouse and Sarah Jan.

Together, these six photographers remind us that no two people see the world in quite the same way.

Come meet the photographers, explore their work and perhaps leave looking a little more closely at the world around you.

Discover the power of colour this Saturday! 🎨

We still have a few seats available for Robert Plante's Colour Workshop - if you've been looking for an excuse to spend an afternoon creating, this is it!

Join Robert as he explores the colour wheel, colour theory, mixing techniques, and the fascinating ways colour influences mood, atmosphere, and storytelling in art. Whether you're just beginning your creative journey or have years of experience, you'll leave with practical skills and a fresh perspective on one of the most important elements of artistic expression.

🎨 Discover the power of colour with Robert Plante!

Why do some colour combinations sing while others fall flat? How can colour create mood, atmosphere, depth - or completely change the way we experience a piece of art?

Join artist Robert Plante for an engaging, hands-on Colour Workshop on Saturday, August 15th, and spend an afternoon exploring colour as one of the most powerful tools in an artist’s toolkit.

Robert will guide participants through the colour wheel, colour theory, mixing techniques, and the psychological and visual effects of colour, with plenty of practical tips for putting those ideas to work in your own creative practice.

$60 — HST, supplies & refreshments included

All necessary materials will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their favourite acrylic or watercolour paints, brushes and tools if they prefer working with familiar supplies.

Whether you’re an experienced artist looking to strengthen your understanding of colour or simply curious to learn more, this workshop offers an afternoon of experimentation, discovery and creative play.

August is already off to a creative start at the Avon River Heritage & Culture Centre! 🎨☀️

We kicked off the month with a wonderful day at Avon River UNFRAMED, and there’s still plenty more art, music and creativity to enjoy throughout August.

Our Big Ass Art Show is now on display, filling the gallery with oversized works by members of the Avon River Arts Society. If you missed the opening reception, no worries - the exhibition continues Wednesday through Sunday, 10–5, until August 30.

There are also a few great reasons to mark your calendars:

✂️ August 8 – Collage Workshop with Titia Jetten
Explore the possibilities of paper collage, 10:30–12:30. $45/person.

🎨 August 15 – Colour 101 with Robert Plante
Dive into colour through an interactive afternoon workshop, 1–4. $60/person.

🎶 August 16 – Sofa Sundays
Settle in for an afternoon of live music from 3–5, featuring Factory Girls + Ken Voita, hosted by the Full Circle Festival.

✂️ August 29 – Collage Workshop with Titia Jetten
Another opportunity to play with paper, composition and creativity, 10:30–12:30. $45/person.
