Yukon Dog Mushers Association

Yukon Dog Mushers Association The Yukon Dog Mushers Association is the oldest mushing association of the Territory established in 1964.

A small but mighty club and the oldest mushing club in the Yukon Territory, promoting kids dog mushing, maintaining the Ibex Valley Tracks and organizing the historical, Memorial Babe Southwick race. Our association is dedicated to:
- Promote mushing to kids through educational events
- Maintain the Ibex Valley tracks for sprint and recreational mushing & skijoring
- Organize the annual Babe South

wick Memorial sprint race

The association was revived in 2016 by a group of passionate people who want to ensure the continuity and the development of sprint mushing in the Territory. The Ibex Valley tracks once a vibrant mushing destination for famous mushers are being maintained again with the goal of building a new club house in the near future.

Did someone loose a a Led Lenser headlamp at the track? I (Virginia) found it so message me to re-unite. Also be aware that there is a mama bear and a cub right not so it would be best to avoid the area for a few days. I met them about 3 km in.

That's a wrap! As we head into spring (hello, mud season!), please avoid driving in or using the trails for now. Giving the roads time to dry helps prevent deep ruts and keeps access in good shape for everyone next season.

Happy Spring—and here’s to the thaw 🌱

Get out and enjoy while you still can!
The snow is great. We still have 14 inches of base and the new groomer is working great at keeping the trail packed but not icy 🙂

Fuel drums - maybe not the most glamorous but absolutely essential to creating miles of trails for the dogs and humans.

Thank you to Yukon Honda for your continued support of Yukon Dog Mushers Association and sled dog sports in the Yukon. They donated several drums in which were in great condition and prepped for the donated fuel by Chieftain Energy.

That late afternoon, Spring sun🌞 is glorious but it's not the greatest time to be on the Ibex Valley Trails. With still colder evenings, members are encouraged to keep cruising the trails, in the mornings particularly, while its still firm. This will help ensure the trails (and the access road) hold on for continued Spring sled dog adventuring!

With all the snow and the grooming this season, why not aim to match a record for longest trail use? Take a look back at this snowy throwback—a spring run from April 17, 2022!

Thank you to Chieftain Energy for donating fuel to the club! 🙌🐾

Founded in 2014 as a partnership between Air North, Yukon's Airline and First Nation-owned businesses, they’re helping power the North while supporting strong, local communities.

We’re grateful for partners like this who help keep the dogs and humans moving - keeping dog mushing culture alive! 🐕❄️ This is the second major support this year from these Yukon businesses.

While our dogs may be champions on the trail, cleanup isn’t exactly their strong suit 👀💩

Friendly reminder, human trail users, please pick up after your pups and help keep the staging area clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone (two-legged and four-legged alike).🐕

Hoppy Spring to all 🌞

Big thanks to board member Owen for the work keeping the trails open for YDMA members 🙌

As he says—get your membership and get out on the trails while winter’s still here (and it looks like it might be sticking around a while yet!).

Hello Members

Winter keeps giving. Arctic Backhoe cleared the road in Friday previously. Trails are groomed but they are on the narrow side. Take caution if you choose to skijor.
