Truth & Reconciliation Day

Today, Ironworkers Local 728 honours the children who never returned home, the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and Indigenous communities across Canada.

Truth and Reconciliation calls on all of us to listen, learn, remember, and take meaningful action. As union members, we believe in standing together for dignity, respect, equality, and the fair treatment of all people.

We recognize that reconciliation is not a single day or a single conversation. It is an ongoing commitment to understanding the truth of Canada’s history, acknowledging the harms caused, and working together toward a better future.

Today, and every day, we remember. We listen. We learn. We stand together.

Today, on the National Day of Mourning, Ironworkers Local 728 pauses to honour and remember the workers who have lost their lives, been injured, or made ill on the job.

Our trade is built on strength, skill, and pride—but above all, it must be built on safety.
No deadline, no pressure, and no shortcut is worth a life.

Today is more than remembrance—it’s a call to action.

Speak up when something isn’t right.
Refuse unsafe work.
Follow procedures—every time, no exceptions.

Ironworkers Local 728, is committed to raising the bar for safety on every site, every day. The standard is simple—everyone goes home.

We will honour those we’ve lost by doing better, demanding better, and never compromising on safety.

Remember the fallen and may they rest in peace
