Playful, affectionate, and a total purr machine โ€” thatโ€™s Boots in a nutshell.

This handsome guy loves to entertain himself, whether heโ€™s tossing toys in the air or batting balls across the room. His goofy antics are sure to make you smile.

When playtime is over, Boots is all about cuddles. Heโ€™s a sweet, gentle boy who loves spending time with his people and isnโ€™t shy about showing off his impressive purr motor.

When it comes to personality, Boots truly has it all. There is just one additional thing potential adopters should know about this special guy.

Boots is FIV-positive (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus). FIV suppresses a catโ€™s immune system, but cats who are neutered, vaccinated, and living safely indoors can live long, happy lives that are comparable to cats without FIV. Because of his FIV status, Boots is looking for a home where he can be the only cat, or a home with another friendly FIV-positive cat.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped us replenish our food supplies this past week.

After sharing that we were getting very low on food, Amazon boxes started arriving at our door almost daily. The support weโ€™ve received has been amazing, and we canโ€™t thank you enough.

Many of the packages arrived without gift notes or sender information, so unfortunately we havenโ€™t been able to thank everyone individually. If you sent something from our wishlist, please know how much we appreciate your generosity.

This food will go a long way and will help us care for the cats already with us, as well as the cats still waiting for our help.

One more down, one to go. ๐Ÿพ

Weโ€™ve recently stepped in to help a cat colony in the Centre Burlington area. There are two feral females remaining on the property that still need to be spayed.

One has young kittens, so sheโ€™s on our radar to trap in a few weeks along with her kittens. The other was the cat we set out to catch this week.
She wanted absolutely nothing to do with a regular live trap and proved to be a very trap-savvy girl. So today, we switched things up and brought out the drop trap.

Right around supper time during her regular feeding, we finally got her!

Sheโ€™s now safe in our care and will be seeing one of our wonderful vet partners next Tuesday.

Three more colony cats are now spayed and neutered!

Today, we had the opportunity to have three of our colony cats altered, two females and one male.

This was made possible by Crossroads Animal Hospital/Tantallon, Avon Animal Hospital, and our friends on the South Shore, who generously shared one of their spay and neuter appointments with us at South Shore Veterinary Hospital, allowing another cat to receive care sooner rather than later.

Itโ€™s a great example of what can happen when rescues work together and support one another. By sharing resources and helping where we can, more cats get the care they need.

Three cats altered today means three fewer cats contributing to the cycle of unwanted litters tomorrow. ๐Ÿพ

After several months of waiting, Colin and Raye officially went to their forever home this evening.

Finding the right match for a bonded pair can sometimes take a little longer, but it was important to us that these two stay together. We are absolutely thrilled that the perfect home finally came along.

A huge thank you to their adopters for opening their hearts and home to this special duo. We couldn't be happier for them.

Today we returned to the Farmington colony and successfully trapped two more adult cats.

We also spent time searching for the kittens. We located them in the barn, but they're hiding in an area filled with stacked lumber and other materials, making them difficult to safely access. The property owner has given us permission to move the materials, so we'll be returning this week to continue our efforts.

Between the cats currently in foster care, the recent intakes, the cats we're actively working to bring into care, and the additional requests for help we're receiving, our food supplies are disappearing quickly.

We're currently running low on both kitten and adult food as new cats continue to come into our care.

Kitten season is definitely keeping us on our toes. โค๏ธ

With recent intakes already settling into our care and additional cats expected from a colony in the coming days, our food supplies are disappearing faster than we'd like.

Kitten wet food is currently our biggest need, but we're also running low on kitten dry food and adult cat food.

The last couple of days have been very busy around here, but we're happy to share that the fourth and final kitten from the East Dalhousie litter was safely trapped this morning and is now in our care.

As you can see, this little one has immediately taken up the same hobby as the others did on day one: climbing the kennel walls.

The other three have already started settling in, so we're sure this little climber will be doing the same before long. ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿพ

On Thursday evening, one of Stray2Stay's founders responded to a post about a cat that had been living in a backyard culvert in the Halifax area for about a week. Concerned residents had been keeping an eye on her and, after no owner came forward, she was safely trapped using one of our humane live traps.

At the time, we had no idea whether the cat was male or female, so we asked the homeowners to keep an eye out for kittens just in case.

The following day, the homeowners spotted a kitten in the exact same area and immediately reached out. Our founder returned to the property with mom in a carrier, and as soon as she started calling, a tiny meow answered back. After several hours of searching and waiting, the kitten was safely secured shortly after 10 p.m. last night.

The cat was checked for a microchip, but none was found.

The area was thoroughly searched for additional kittens, but none were found. The homeowners remain on "kitten watch" and will continue keeping an eye on the area.

Mom and baby have since settled in nicely. Mom is proving to be a sweet and attentive mother, and both are now safe, warm, and no longer spending their nights in a backyard culvert. โค๏ธ

A little update on this East Dalhousie crew. โค๏ธ

Yesterday, mom was safely trapped, and today two more of her kittens were trapped as well. That means three of the four kittens are now safely in our care, with the fourth expected to join them very soon.

Mom is a feral cat, and we're happy to be able to ensure that this will be her last litter. Once she has recovered from her spay surgery, she will be returned to the dedicated caretaker who has been providing food, shelter, and ongoing care for her. We're incredibly grateful for people like this who quietly look after outdoor cats and work alongside rescues to help improve their quality of life.

As for the kittens, they're still trying to decide whether we're here to help or whether we're the worst thing that's ever happened to them.

They arrived dirty, skinny, carrying fleas, ear mites, and tapeworms, and more than a little suspicious of humans. After spending their lives outdoors, we probably look like a bunch of big, scary monsters.

One particular kitten made its feelings known today with a set of tiny murder mittens. For a tiny kitten, it had all the confidence of a 400-pound apex predator.

The good news is that we've seen this story before. With time, patience, and plenty of TLC, we know ๏ฟผthese little ones will come around.

The photos tell the story themselves. From scaling the kennel walls looking for a way out, to hissing, lunging, and doing their very best to look tough, to discovering that soft beds are actually pretty great.

Although, judging by the last picture, we may need a bigger bed already. ๐Ÿฉท
