Local RCMP Community Action Team seizes body armour, handgun and other stolen fi****ms:
----------------
Colchester County District RCMP Community Action Team has charged a North River man after executing a search warrant and seizing fi****ms, including a stolen handgun.
On October 2, investigators learned that a man was in possession of multiple fi****ms. He did not have a licence for the fi****ms and they were not stored properly.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., officers, including the Nova Scotia Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nova Scotia Emergency Response Team (ERT), located the man at a business in North River. When officers told the man that he was under arrest, he refused to comply with directions. Officers deployed a conducted energy weapon in order for him to be taken into custody.
Officers then executed a search warrant at a residence on West North River Rd. and seized additional evidence from a second home. In total, they seized two fi****ms, one of which is a handgun, replica fi****ms, am******on, and body armour.
As part of the investigation, it was determined that one of the fi****ms seized was reported stolen in 2023.
Michael McQueen, 33, is charged with thirteen offences including Careless Use of Fi***rm (four counts), Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (two counts), Carrying Concealed Weapon, and Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of Offence. He was released by police on conditions pending a court appearance scheduled for December 16 at Truro Provincial Court.
The Colchester Community Action Team is leading the ongoing investigation. Other supporting units include general duty officers, ERT, RCMP Police Dog Services, and the RCMP National Weapons Enforcement Support Team.

Amazing job done by Halifax firefighters.

HRFE has reached an important operational milestone, with the fire at the Halifax Grain Elevator now considered under control.

Crews remain on scene and will continue working carefully to fully extinguish the remaining material. Operations are expected to be slow and deliberate as firefighters work safely through this next phase.

Colchester County District RCMP is investigating a swatting incident linked to a fraud attempt in Lower Truro.

On October 23, at approximately 9:45 a.m., Colchester County District RCMP received information from Truro Police Service that a woman had reported being held hostage by three armed individuals at a residence on Tideview Dr.

RCMP and Truro Police Service officers responded immediately and located the woman safe at the home.

Officers learned the report stemmed from a fraud attempt. The woman had received a call from someone claiming to be from her bank’s fraud department regarding alleged fraudulent activity and was instructed to download an application to her cell phone.

Before taking any action, the woman consulted with a friend who advised her to contact her bank directly. When the caller realized she was not complying with the instructions, they became agitated, called her back, and indicated there was a surprise waiting for her at her door. When the woman looked outside, she saw a large police presence.

The investigation is ongoing.

“This incident highlights how far scammers are willing to go when their schemes are challenged,” says S/Sgt. Marc Rose, Colchester County District RCMP. “By falsely reporting an armed hostage situation, they caused a significant deployment of police resources for an event that never occurred. We commend the victim for taking the time to verify the information she received and encourage others to do the same when contacted about suspected fraud.”

Anyone who has been a victim of fraud, or who has information about fraudulent activity, is asked to contact their local police. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers, toll-free, at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), by submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or using the P3 Tips app.
