The Wasaga Beach Corvette Lottery is about much more than giving away a beautiful car!

It's about giving back to the community.

On Monday, October 19, the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach will celebrate the incredible work of local charities during a special Community Conversations event, Thank Goodness for Local Charities.

As part of the evening, we'll also be presenting cheques from the proceeds of the 2026 Wasaga Beach Corvette Lottery to selected local charitable organizations.

It's an opportunity to recognize the people and organizations making a difference close to home, and to celebrate what community support makes possible.

Local charities make a difference in our community every single day.

From supporting families facing food insecurity to improving local healthcare and creating opportunities for young people, charitable organizations play an important role in making Wasaga Beach and the surrounding area a better place to live.

However, their work doesn't happen on its own. It takes dedicated volunteers, generous donors, community partnerships and strong leadership.

On Monday, October 19, our next Community Conversations event will bring together three local charity leaders to discuss the challenges they face, the difference their organizations make, and how our community can continue supporting their work.

Wasagans Beyond Borders - Making Communities Better Through International Service

At the Club's August 31 Community Conversations event, four speakers shared inspiring stories of service in the bateys of the Dominican Republic.

Led by Steve Wallace, the panel featured Kevin de Groot, Crystal Holmes, and Jonathan Wallace, who spoke about their firsthand experiences helping individuals and communities near Puerto Plata through HHART — the Hispaniola Humanitarian Assistance and Relief Team, the international service arm of the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach.

One of the evening’s most memorable stories came from Crystal, a dental hygienist, who described working alongside two young men as they helped provide oral health care in the villages. That experience — and the confidence they gained through hands-on dental work — helped affirm their decision to pursue careers in dentistry. Both are now enrolled in a dentistry program at UTSA in Santiago.

Steve and Kevin also shared how, with support from a Rotary District Grant and several Rotary Clubs in Ontario, the HHART Team helped build the top floor of a school in Batey Cangrejo. The completed school now allows children as young as five to attend classes, giving them a stronger start toward a brighter future.
