When you hear the term “period poverty,” what comes to mind?

For many, it’s simply the lack of access to menstrual products, but the reality is so much deeper.

In simple terms, it means not being able to manage your period safely, hygienically, and confidently because of financial or social barriers.

It’s not just about products, it’s about dignity!

When men understand menstrual health, communities change.

In Cambodia, Days for Girls’ Men Who Know program is helping men become advocates, educators, and leaders in menstrual health.

Mr. Pheak Phoun’s journey is only one example. After participating in the Men Who Know program and working with the DfG Social Enterprise in Siem Reap, he became a menstrual health educator. Today, he serves as a Program Manager with Days for Girls, training teachers and helping bring menstrual health education into schools across Cambodia.

“As teachers and students learn more about their health, they become more open and confident talking about it,” he shared. “Students are no longer shy like they used to be. When they have health-related concerns, they come forward to ask questions.”

In Ecuador, menstrual health education is creating space for understanding, confidence, and open conversation, reaching more than 4,000 people in 2025 alone.

Participants shared how learning about their bodies and menstrual health helped replace confusion with clarity. Others emphasized the importance of having these conversations openly, not just in schools, but across communities where silence and embarrassment have often limited understanding.

By pairing education with dignity-centered approaches, Days for Girls supports learning that is practical, respectful, and empowering. These voices reflect what’s possible when people are given the information and space they need to ask questions, build confidence, and move forward with greater understanding.

“They are no longer shy or feel alone during their period.”

In Chetha Sao’s classroom, girls who once stayed quiet about their periods are now raising their hands and asking questions thanks to her leadership and knowledge through Days for Girls.

This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating educators like Chetha who are helping students gain knowledge, confidence, and dignity through menstrual health education.

Through our partnership with Convoy of Hope, Days for Girls is reaching 3,500 girls across Kenya with menstrual health education and washable menstrual health Kits.

“I have been using a piece of mattress to manage my periods and during my period, I don't come to school for like three days. I am happy I will be using this kit to manage my periods” - Priscila Arukudi

“I now understand how to keep myself clean during my period and how to use the washable pads properly. I feel more confident.” - Kenya Student

In communities where access and open conversation haven’t always been guaranteed, this work is helping create space for knowledge, confidence, and dignity.

Kenya is just part of the story. This impact is part of a broader 4-country partnership with Convoy of Hope supporting more than 10,000 girls across Burkina Faso, Kenya, Niger, and Zambia.
