** Here is our potential list**

Hip #256 late 20s draft cross gelding. Thin, achy sore legs and has obvious c
ushings.

Hip #260 6 year old bay mare with terribly swollen/calcified rear hockey and what looks to be DSL.

Hip # 290. Sorrel yearling filly.

Auction day is upon us again. As usual, we will be there to assess horses and bring home those most in need of a soft landing.
Sadly, our funds are not infinite, and most of our emergency funds were used at rhe end of winter to purchase additional round bales and extra feed.

To answer a question we are sure will be asked... yes, we do have a reserve fund that covers the horses currently in our care. That being said, as much as we want to bring home new arrivals, we would be remiss in our responsibilities to use those funds at auction today.

We have the space to take in a couple of new arrivals, but as always we would greatly appreciate anything donated to help offset the purchase cost of bailing out these horses.

All of you amazing folks and your heartfelt generosity have helped us help so many horses throughout the years...... without your support we would be unable to do what is closest to our hearts, and that is offering last chance horses a new lease on life.

Can you help us do that? We know some wonderful equine souls who would be eternally thankful.

Donations can be sent to [email protected].

This weekend is the first auction that we attend. Hopefully everyone looks good! We will be spending our time assessing horses that we maybe interested in. And will update once we are there. That being said, we get a lot of people asking us if we can assess a horse for them. While we try to make the time to do this most times we simply don’t have the time. There is always a lot going on, and we try to make sure we spend a bit of time with most of the horses. Please don’t feel that we aren’t trying to help or answer messages, most times it’s only the 2 of us.

Here’s hoping to not many horses!

Well…. It happened again. Who knew it could not just once, but twice 🤦‍♀️. We picked up one of our horse trailers from Sunrise Equestrian (where we winter some of the horses). I joked “ha, wouldn’t that be funny if we had a cat stow away”. We stopped in Oakbank, put air in a tire, got to Stonewall. Went for a walk around the pasture and came back and opened the tack room door. And yup, one of Rae’s cats jumped out. Kim caught it and put it in my truck and back to Anola we went. 😳

Last Friday was a beautiful day. Not too hot, a light breeze and the sun was shining softly. A good day.

Those of you who know us at the Rescue , know that we try to "Do It On A Good Day".

By "it" , we are referring to Euthanasia. It's a hard subject for folks sometimes. We know it isn't easy to discuss, think about and especially do. But its what we promise our horses. In truth, for many, it is the final, most caring, dignified act of kindness they can ever recieve. They go out knowing nothing but love and gentleness, safety and a full belly.

Friday was Catori's "good day".

Catori was the very last of the OGs. The original rescue horses. A beautiful bay and white paint mare with stunning blue eyes, she was like a regal grand dame and loved to stand and watch all the goings on.....but from a distance.

She originally came in to our care in the fall of 2010 as a foster before we were even an actual rescue, from our friend Catharine Kruiz. With her came a young gelding named Cabo and my old fella Red Kelly. We figured her age to be around the 12-14 year mark. They settled in well, and shortly after added Midas, who became her constant, steady companion and protector.
Those 2 were never apart.

A vet diagnosis kept her as a pasture companion only, and so she stayed with us as a permanent resident. While she was incredibly shy the first while, she bloomed into a sweet gentle mare who loved her cookies and being brushed. No bad habits, no bad manners, not a mean bone in her body.

She was a constant fixture for us, always seeking for a tidbit and a pat, patiently waiting her turn for attention and grooming.

We could tell tho, the last year how she had changed. She was becoming more tired, slower, less enthusiasm in her steps. We knew. And so did she......
It was time to let her go Home.

So we did. On a "Good Day".

The two boys have been gone a few years now, and in our minds she is running again with them, Cabo and Red Kelly, young and full of energy, frolicking in the pasture like they used to.....

Rest east, sweet girl. Sleep well.
We will miss you so very, very much.

When we let some of the horses out to stretch their legs the other day, we also let Skeeter out to burn off some energy. Can we just appreciate how floaty he is 😍 he is on the thinner side still and has been with us for about 3-4 weeks and has put on weight already. I’ll add another video of his lope in the comments.

Best surprise ever! When I got out to the horses yesterday the pens were cleaned and smooth again! No more hoof ruts for now!
