New beginnings often follow sadness and loss. While we mourn Ash and Tigger, life doesn’t stop. This weekend we welcomed Chappy. A gelded Bay Champagne registered quarter horse yearling. He was born with crooked legs, he’s had surgery and corrective shoes but his legs have still not straightened completely out. He is on a regular trim cycle and is completely sound and such a sweet, sweet boy.

And Momma Iris robbed a train for the first time this weekend! She was a very good girl and very chill. While she doesn’t seem to know much, she took everything in stride and barely blinked when the train was coming up. For the most part, she followed Doc but did go off on her own a couple of times. We’ve brought her in to see how she reacts because we’ve been invited to be a part of a Spooktacular event hosted by the Prairie Dog Central for Halloween. And of course we needed a black horse! We will keep you updated on that!

Also, we been gifted an amazing tack set made by Nevada West Tack. Bridle and breast collar and all the bling! It’s beautiful! I tried to take pictures in the sun to show how it sparkles. Our good friend is going to be selling spots for the month of September for $10 a spot 😍 we will also be at the tack sale at The Red Barn in Stonewall, September 20, selling spots. More to come tomorrow!

RIP Ash and Tigger, 2 souls left this earth together. You never have to worry about being scared of humans any more Ash. And Tigger, I’m sure you’ve got your eyesight back, and think of all the horses that you’ll meet that left before you.

A huge thank you to Dr Hannah and her vet tech for coming today and laying them to rest.

The weirdest thing happened just after Tiggers heart quit beating. Dr Hannah and her vet tech were double checking his heart, I was standing near his head and Kim was standing near his hind end. All of a sudden, a dust devil started in the pen next to us, came through the fence, got all of us dirty with dust and dirt, passed over Tigger, crossed over to Ash, and then went out the fence beside where Ash lay. We all looked at eachother, none of us had ever had something like that happen. It was the strangest, yet most calming thing. And then a few minutes after the vet left, Kim was walking and a bird flew over her and a feather fell down and landed on her.

Rest in Paradise you two, till we meet again.

It was pretty cool to see last night. As I was watching a program on TLC (don’t judge me, lol), a commercial for our documentary came on!

We have made the difficult decision to lay Tigger and Ash to rest later this week. Actually, that’s not true, the decision wasn’t difficult, it’s just makes us sad.

It wasn’t difficult because both have been struggling over the spring and summer. Both came out of winter looking great and feeling great.

And then the rains began, and didn’t stop, and dry mud turned to wet mud. So much wet mud. And then the heat and the horrible, horrible invasion of the flies. We have never ever seen flies like this. On top of having so much mud, both started lacking. With Tigger being 31, and Ash in her later 20’s. Things got harder for both. And instead of being out eating the bale of hay, they hid in the shelter with less flies. So they started to drop some weight. Ash became more scared of people and harder and harder to catch.

We decided to move them to another pen that was larger and had grass and hay, in hopes that they would flourish with more room to walk about. Instead because of Tiggers limited sight, they just walked back and forth from the hay to the water trough. And the bugs didn’t let up. The fly strike on his legs is something we’ve never seen this bad, even with fly boots. I slathered Vaseline on his legs daily, and it helped a bit but not much. And they were attacking his face. Everyday I would Vaseline his legs and the flies would stick to my hands. His legs were bitten raw. It was crazy. Slowly, as the weather started to change, the flies got better. But even being decked out in fly mask, fly sheet, and fly boots, it too more of a toll on him. And even feeding extra pellets daily, it’s at a point that it’s not making much difference, and in all honesty l, they are both just existing. You can tell they are no longer enjoying their life.

We tried to give them more but they weren’t comfortable having more space. Tigger is now completely blind. He has no vision whatsoever, and he’s gotten spooky. In fact he’s run me over a couple of times while I’ve been pouring his pellets into his dish. I make sure to talk to him so he knows where I am, but he panics. As much as we’d like for them to be with us forever, we have to listen to them and their needs. Ash is petrified of people, and when you are able to catch her, god forbid someone else comes up also.

So, we are choosing to do it on a good day. Like we always try to do.

A huge thank you to Donna Ridgeway, Cheryl Fryer, Jo-anne Procter, Amanda Cannon and Jo-Anne’s friends for helping out at Quarry Days. Whew! What an evening. Donna, and Amanda helped myself and Kim walk the concert crowd (what a lot of people for the awesome concert!), then we headed off to the Beer Gardens to work the gate. A lot of people again! This town sure knows how to have a party!

Also, a huge, huge thank you to Stonewall Quarry Days for inviting us back this year and next year. And thank you to everyone that donated! The funds we raised during the concert get split 50/50 between us and Quarry Days 🙂 we don’t know the amount raised yet but should know by the end of the week. We need to give Christy time to re-cooperate!

Hey all! If anyone is looking for something to do tomorrow evening and wanting to help out our rescue 🙂 we are still looking for a couple of people to help walk the crowd at the free concert at Quarry Days in Stonewall. We will be walking the crowd from approx 7:45 pm til 8:45 pm, and you get to listen to the concert! Michelle Wright, Doc Walker and Jason McCoy will be on stage!

And we will also be looking for a couple of people to circulate in the beer gardens from approx 9:30-midnight selling 50/50. You don’t have to be selling the whole time.
