$225,000 FOR MORE DOCTORS.
This year, we attended the Westshore Charity Golf Tournament for the third time. But for the tournament, this year marked something much bigger: 30 years of giving back to our community. Over those three decades, countless local charities, organizations and community projects have benefited from the tournament's generosity.
For the South Island Primary Care Society, though, the Westshore Charity Golf Tournament holds a particularly important place in our story. Just two and a half years ago, our organization was brand new. We had an audacious vision: to make a bold and measurable impact on the primary care crisis on South Vancouver Island. We had started our first practice at Colwood Family Practice. We had a small group of doctors who believed in what we were trying to build. And we had an enormous amount of work ahead of us. We knew we could recruit physicians to our community. We knew that with the right infrastructure, recruitment support and community investment, we could create new primary care capacity. But at that point, we didn't have years of results to show. We didn't have a long track record. We didn't have proof of concept yet. And as a new organization asking the community to invest in an ambitious idea, finding those first donors was incredibly difficult.
Then our Executive Director sat down for coffee with Stew Young. The conversation was simple: our community needed more family doctors, and we believed we could help bring them here. Stew quickly said yes. That coffee got our organization across the starting line. That year, the tournament helped fund our first 10 doctors. Those weren't just 10 recruitment files or 10 names on a list. They represented thousands of people gaining access to primary care. They gave our organization the opportunity to prove that this model could work. And they helped turn an ambitious idea into something tangible.
Since then, we have grown, opened and supported clinics with massive partners, recruited physicians nationally and internationally, and helped connect thousands more people with primary care. But our work isn't finished. This year, we returned to the Westshore Charity Golf Tournament with that message: We have made significant progress — but our community still needs more doctors. And once again, they answered the call. At the 30th Annual Westshore Charity Golf Tournament, an incredible $220,000 was raised for the South Island Primary Care Society to continue bringing more doctors and more primary care capacity to our communities.
To the organizers, sponsors, golfers, volunteers, businesses and donors who made this year's tournament possible: thank you.
You didn't simply raise $225,000.
You invested in more doctors.
You invested in more access to care.
And you invested in a healthier future for our community.
We will never forget who believed in this work at the beginning — and we are incredibly grateful that, three years later, you are still standing beside us.

Now, we get back to work.
