Meet Felix and Auggie, two of our youngest fundraisers.

When baby Auggie spent his first 10 days in the NICU, his family gained a new appreciation for the support available to families navigating a medical challenge.

Inspired by Auggie's journey and Felix's love of art, their family turned gratitude into action. Through Art for a Cause, this birthday fundraiser raised $2,560 to help Island families access the care and support they need.

For their mom, Chelsea, the fundraiser was about more than raising money. It was an opportunity to teach her children the importance of creativity, generosity, and helping others.

“To intentionally do things is the most important thing, because no one knows how much time they have. So it’s just important to do as much good as you can with the time you do have,” says Chelsea.

It's never too early to start a conversation about giving back. When we encourage young ones to care for their communities, we help build a future filled with compassion, generosity, and hope.

Turning heartbreak into hope.

You’ve probably heard about Jesse’s House and how our new Home Away From Home will support families travelling to Nanaimo while their child receives medical care. But have you heard the story behind it?

Meet Sheri, Jesse’s mom.

More than a decade ago, Jesse was born 11 weeks early in Nanaimo and required specialized care in Victoria. As Jesse fought for her life, Sheri and her family faced another challenge many Island families know all too well: finding a place to stay close to their child.

Sheri told us that when she arrived at Jeneece Place, it felt like a weight had been lifted.

After Jesse's passing, Sheri became determined to ensure families with a child in hospital in her own city would have that same support she received. And she started advocating for a Home Away From Home in Nanaimo.

That vision is now becoming reality, thanks to an incredible community of supporters.

"Jesse's House will have a huge impact on the lives of Island families, providing a safe, warm place where they can receive the same support that meant so much to us, and be just steps away from their child."

🏡🌙 365 Nights is back for a second year! 🎉

We're excited to launch another year of 365 Nights, our community campaign to help fund accommodation for Island families travelling for their child's medical care.

What a wonderful start! Thanks to the incredible support of our community, we've already raised $12,920 helping fund 13 weeks of accommodation at our homes. 💜

Our launch party brought together friends and supporters for an evening of connection and celebration. Guests also had the opportunity to hear from Krista, Jeneece Place Manager, who shared what it means for families to be able to stay together, thanks to a community rallying around them when it need it most.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to Île Sauvage Brewing Co. and Pizzeria Prima Strada for helping make the evening such a success.

"It wasn't just about the money. It was about being able to breathe a little and know that we could get through this without constantly panicking about bills or meals." -- Dana, Denver's mom.

That's the difference donor support made for Denver's family through our Bear Essentials program.

When Denver was diagnosed with leukemia, her family suddenly found themselves travelling far from home for treatment while continuing to manage the realities of everyday life. As the trips between Sooke and Vancouver added up, so did the costs.

Thanks to support from Bear Essentials, some of that financial pressure was eased, giving Denver's family one less thing to worry about during an incredibly difficult time.

Because of generous donors, families can focus less on travel costs and more on what matters most: their child's health and well-being.

Last year, Soni and her husband travelled from Nanaimo to Victoria for a planned C-section. Moments after their son Iraaj was born, he was rushed into emergency surgery, quite unexpectedly.

Iraaj's first days were filled with uncertainty. And in the following months, the family travelled to Victoria many times for Iraaj's treatment.

Jeneece Place became their lifeline.

With a welcoming place to stay close to the hospital, Iraaj's family could focus on what mattered most: supporting their son through his health care journey.

As Soni shared: “When you are breaking down, just having something nearby makes life much easier."

Because of donor support, families like theirs know they aren't alone.

Congratulations to our incredible team of runners who hit the streets at the Royal Victoria Marathon and ran for Island kids and families.

We surpassed our fundraising goal!! Together, we raised over $12,500 to support Island families on their health care journeys.

A huge thank you to our runners, donors, volunteers, and supporters for making a difference. A special shout-out to Mike Shaw Mike Shaw, whose passion, dedication, and fundraising efforts inspired our team and community every step of the way.

Last year, Island children and families received support when they needed it most. This year's report is filled with hope, resilience, and community. Inside, you'll read the stories behind the numbers.
