Forty years of learning, growth, and building the future of our industry. 🎉

On October 22, we came together to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT), marking four decades of training, opportunity, and community.

The celebration featured remarks from Mark Russo, President of Carpenters Local 27, Nicole Ross, Executive Director of CCAT, and Jim Vlahos, Executive Director of the General Contractors’ Association of Toronto (GCAT), reflecting on the journey and the people who have helped make this milestone possible.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported us, and believed in our mission over the past 40 years. Your trust and commitment have helped shape who we are today, and we are proud of what we have built together.

The strength of this industry comes from the range of people and trades behind it.
When skilled crews have access to real opportunities across regions, it doesn’t just benefit them, it strengthens the entire industry.

Local 27 membership gives you benefits that support both your career and your life off the jobsite. Health and welfare coverage for you and your family, including prescriptions, dental, vision, and paramedical care.
A pension that builds with every hour you work, so retirement is something you can actually plan for.
Training and upskilling to keep you employable and grow your career.

This isn’t theory.

The people behind Local 27 have lived the work and understand what doesn’t get said, what gets overlooked, and what actually holds jobs back.

That’s why the approach is built on reality, not assumptions.

Meet Robert Long, a Local 27 member for 7 years.

Robert was looking for a career he could be proud of. After finding Local 27 on Google, he reached out to the union representatives to learn more about the trade and where it could take him.

Seven years later, Robert has found more than a career. He’s found a trade he enjoys and a community he’s proud to be part of.

A few more moments from this year’s NAC. Our Local 27 competitors put their skills on display, and there was plenty to see between the competitions too.

A big thank you to our fellow Local 27 member, Mauro Pereira Jr., for joining us and sharing his painting with everyone. Great to see another side of the talent in our local!

POV: You work in carpentry.

Early mornings. Hard work. Long days.
Learning something new every day.
Working alongside people who know their trade.
And seeing your work come together right in front of you.

There’s nothing like being able to look at something and say, “I helped build that.”

Local 27 supports trades at every stage of the build. Whatever your craft, we've got the training, resources and advocacy to back your career.
