The Complaint and Resolution Council for Student Societies (CRCSS) has issued its decision regarding a formal complaint brought forward by five Jewish students at UTM concerning the UTMSU.

The Panel found that UTMSU did not fully meet several obligations under University policy, including issues related to transparency, consultation, complaint-handling, and consideration of minority viewpoints.

Hillel Ontario is proud to have supported these students throughout this process and will continue to do so moving forward.

Jewish students deserve to know that their universities will not remain silent when the home of Jewish campus life is singled out for attack.

Across North America, we are witnessing growing efforts to isolate, defund, and exclude Hillel from campus life. These campaigns are direct attacks on Jewish belonging at a time of unprecedented levels of Jew-hatred on university campuses.

We are calling on university leadership across Ontario to publicly and forcefully reject any effort to marginalize Jewish campus life, and to affirm that Jewish students deserve the same level of inclusion and protection afforded to all.

Jewish must be able to gather openly, proudly, and safely as Jews on campus.

Strengthening the pipeline of Jewish leadership starts long before students arrive on campus. Last week, Hillel Ontario mobilized 15 staff members and 20 student leaders from nine campuses for a comprehensive transition program at TanenbaumCHAT. We engaged with 300 Grade 12 students to demystify Jewish life at Ontario universities and provide peer-to-peer mentorship. This initiative is a critical component of our strategy to build early connections and ensure Jewish continuity. By the time these students reach campus in September, they will already have a trusted Jewish network in place.

The ground has shifted beneath us. The trust we once had in institutions to protect Jewish students with moral clarity has eroded.

But despair is not a strategy.

We're not backing down. We're doubling down on Jewish life, student leadership, advocacy, safety, community, and our connection to Israel.

Doubling down means more than statements. It means investing in Jewish confidence, literacy, and joy. It means campuses where Jewish students contribute openly and proudly.

We are not going anywhere.

From BC -> to Ontario -> to Montreal, Jewish students are coming together to show that no matter the campus, their shared identity brings them closer than ever.

At a time when antisemitism is rising, they’re choosing visibility over silence and pride over fear, continuing to show up unapologetically every single day.

This video is the result of that. We couldn’t be prouder ✡️

Kol hakavod to the students from Hillel York, Hillel TMU, Hillel Montreal, Hillel McMaster, Hillel Guelph, Hillel Anywhere and Uvic Hillel Bc for participating! (and special shoutout to Elina Zvigelsky for making it happen!)

“Hillel has taught me what it means to be unapologetically Jewish.”

Meet Elina. Graduating from York. Two years at Hillel and, in her words, the best part of her university career.
To anyone walking in for the first time, you're about to have the best time of your life.

Across nine campuses and anywhere in between, our students are showing up. Proudly, publicly, and unapologetically.

This year they hosted Shabbat dinners that became anchors of belonging. They led their peers. They built community. They chose to be seen, even when it wasn't easy.

This week is Hillel Global Giving Week, May 4 to 9. Every gift made this week is matched dollar for dollar, up to $25,000.

If you believe in what these students are building, please be part of it.

Our Senior Director of Advocacy, Jacqueline Dressler, was proud to join a panel hosted by Canadian Women Against Antisemitism this week. She shared her expertise on the current landscape of campus antisemitism and how we can work together to support our students. It is so important to see our community organizations collaborating to keep our campuses safe and inclusive for everyone.
