Ruby Pumpkins is retiring after more than a decade of therapy do***ng!

Her handler Marilyn tells us:

“After more than ten years as a St John Ambulance Therapy dog, the inimitable Ruby Pumpkin is retiring. Now 13.5 years old, she started her volunteering at the young age of 2.5. With her sunny disposition and outgoing personality, she took to the work immediately and volunteered at classrooms of autistic children, in the prestigious Court Witness program, and lastly, and for many years, on the neurology unit at the Western Hospital. There, she got to know staff and patients, where she was welcomed weekly like an old friend. She’ll be enjoying her retirement with some extra time for snoozing and gentle walks reading the nosepaper and her peemail.”

Thank you Ruby and Marilyn for all that you gave! The pack was lucky to have you and we wish you a long, happy, healthy retirement! 🤎🤎🤎

We are so sad to share that Sammy has passed away at the age of 14.

Sammy and her handler Leslie have been part of our pack since 2023. They visited regularly at Sunnybrook Veterans Centre and at schools. Sammy brought joy to hundreds of people as a therapy dog.

We thank Sammy and Leslie so much for being wonderful members of our pack. And we send Leslie and everyone who loved Sammy our deep condolences on her passing 🤍🖤🤍

Glorious Rapunzel visited her friends at Queen’s Estate this week. We know what you’re thinking - how could those chairs possibly be empty? Where are her adoring fans? This was just a moment of solo reflection. Rest assured - our girl received adequate attention and her friends were treated to her love 💕

***NEW TEAM ALERT*** Please join us in welcoming Winnie and her handler Suzanne to the pack!

Suzanne tells us:
“ Winnie is a four year old boxer who has been with us since the age of eight weeks, when we picked her up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She has always enjoyed being around people so the SJA program seeemed like a natural fit for her. In her home life, Winnie has lots of passions. She loves playing with her boxer sister, Ryder. She has a boxer/bully boyfriend named Kane who we wake up early for everyday to see. Winnie loves the cottage, boating, dressing up for halloween and she has learned to love her mom’s favourite hockey team, the Montreal Canadiens!”

We forgive them for not picking the Toronto team (in truth - it’s cruel to wish Leaf fandom on anyone…) and heartily welcome both Winnie and Suzanne to the pack! 🤎🤍🤎

We would feel so lucky if this leprechaun princess visited us! But alas, sweet Leah was busy visiting the patients and staff yesterday. We are certain she brought cheer!

***NEW TEAM ALERT*** Please join us in welcoming Freddy and his handler Leah to the pack! (If you check his Instagram out you’ll see he also goes by Sir Frederick Fluffbottom - but only on formal occasions)

Leah tells us:
“Freddy is a 4.5-year-old Sheepadoodle we’ve had since he was 8 weeks old. He’s an extremely loving, sweet-natured, and affectionate dog that gets along well with everyone, and enjoys playing with his dog friends at the park. Freddy is popular in our community, often rolling over for belly rubs from neighborhood kids. He can never get enough attention and pets from everyone he meets. He lives with his two human sisters and his cat brother, Levi. He and Levi love to hang out at the front window of our house and watch people pass by. Freddy loves car rides, family trips to the cottage for hiking and swimming, and especially cozy movie nights snuggling on the couch with the family.

I wanted to give back to my community, and it was a bonus to do it with my best friend, Freddy. As a people person, I want to help others. When I’m not volunteering, I work full-time in HR and have a passion for helping others. Freddy and I both love visiting the wonderful people we’ve met at St. Joe’s hospital once a week.”

With that sweet, smiley face we’re confident that Freddy will spread endless joy! Welcome to the pack Freddy and Leah! We’re so glad to have you 🤍🩶🤍
