VP Athletics Jim “Demetrios” Fabrikis
For Brother Jim Fabrikis, AHEPA, education and investing in the next generation have been connected for most of his life.
Born to Greek immigrant parents and raised in London, Ontario, Jim grew up surrounded by Hellenic community involvement. His father, Constantine “Gus” Fabrikis, dedicated decades to the Greek community, serving as both Treasurer and President of AHEPA while also volunteering extensively with the Church and youth sports.
That example of service clearly carried forward.
Jim joined AHEPA in 1990 and has now dedicated more than 35 years to the Order. Over those years, he has served AHEPA at virtually every level, including five terms as President of the Toronto Chapter, as a Past District Governor of District 23, and today as VP Athletics on the District Lodge.
But perhaps Jim’s greatest AHEPA legacy is not an office he has held.
It is what he has built for the generations coming behind him.
In 2010, Jim founded the AHEPA Toronto Youth Basketball Program. What began as an initiative to bring young people together through athletics has grown into a thriving program with four boys teams, a girls team and a men’s team, serving more than 70 young athletes from across the Greater Toronto Area.
The teams compete locally and travel to tournaments in Toronto, Windsor, Detroit and Chicago, but the program has always been about much more than basketball. It creates friendships, teaches sportsmanship, builds confidence and gives young people and their families another connection to the AHEPA Family.
More than 125 players and family members attended the program’s 2025 to 2026 year end awards celebration.
And sixteen years after founding it, Jim is still coaching.
Even better, his son Yianni Fabrikis is now among the coaches working alongside him, continuing a family tradition of service that stretches back another generation.
Education has also defined Jim professionally. He built his career as a teacher and has served as a Head of Department with the York Region District School Board, bringing the same commitment to mentorship and young people into his professional life that we see throughout his AHEPA service.
His commitment to education extends into AHEPA as well. Jim has been deeply involved with scholarships and the AHEPA Family Charitable Foundation of Canada. In 2026, the Foundation introduced the Constantine Fabrikis Health Sciences Student Scholarship, carrying forward the Fabrikis family name through another investment in the next generation.
Jim has also remained active in philanthropy and community building, including helping lead the 2026 AHEPA Toronto Charity Golf Tournament, supporting initiatives that advance Hellenism, education, philanthropy and youth programs.
His years of service have not gone unnoticed. During a visit to Toronto, Supreme President Savas C. Tsivicos presented Brother Jim with the AHEPA Heroes Medal, recognizing his dedication and service to the Order.
When Jim reflected on why he joined AHEPA, he described it as a passage toward becoming “a gentleman and a responsible contributing member of our community.”
More than three decades later, he has spent much of his AHEPA life creating opportunities for others to do exactly that.
Jim has also spoken openly about one of the greatest challenges facing AHEPA: growing and sustaining our membership for future generations.
His answer has been action.
Bring young people together. Teach them. Coach them. Give them a place to belong. Introduce their families to AHEPA. And keep showing up.
As VP Athletics, Brother Jim brings decades of leadership, mentorship and firsthand experience to the District Lodge as we work together to strengthen our Chapters and build the next generation of AHEPA across Eastern Canada.
Together, we continue building a stronger AHEPA District 23, Eastern Canada.
