What does thriving really look and feel like for Black tenants in TCHC communities?

The Centre for Advancing the Interests of Black People (the Centre) is working with experts in health equity and community development to develop a Black Thriving Framework at TCHC.

The Centre is seeking input from tenants throughout June to share their feedback and ideas.

Tenants can participate by:

➡️ Completing an online survey by Friday, July 3

➡️ Signing up to take part in a focus group or one-on-one interview

Why invest in public housing? Research shows this investment leads to stronger communities and a more resilient economy.

Today, the Public Housing Dividend report launched. This first-of-its-kind research measures the full benefit of public housing for communities. What's clear from the research is that investing in public housing leads to positive outcomes – for homes, for health, and for the economy.

The report was prepared by the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis. It was commissioned by the GTHA Community Housing Collaborative (a partnership of CityHousing Hamilton, Peel Housing Corporation, Housing York, Durham Region, Halton Community Housing Corporation, and TCHC) with support from Scotiabank.

After years of organizing, tenants at 608 Dawes Road are finally seeing some justice after years of health and safety violations.

Notorious 500 Dawes landlord, Carolyn Kreb (also the owner of 608 Dawes), was sentenced in court for putting tenants at risk.

Thanks to all the tenant organizers, groups like Toronto ACORN who never relented, to City staff and Mayor Olivia Chow for pushing the change we need to see on enforcement.
