AIRTAGS ARE NOT FOR DOGS ππ«
Unfortunately, bluetooth devices have consistently proven ineffective for tracking lost dogs.
How AirTags Work: AirTags were designed to track stationary personal items, not living, moving beings. They rely on bluetooth signals that βpingβ off nearby iPhones with bluetooth enabled, with an unobstructed range of about 30 ft. Although AirTags are inexpensive and have replaceable batteries, they come with serious limitations. Apple does not recommend AirTags for use with pets.
AirTag Limitations π«
Limited Range: Bluetooth signals are easily blocked by trees, cars, buildings, or terrain.
Inaccurate Location: In our teamβs tests, AirTag locations were often delayed and imprecise.
No Signal in Quiet Areas: Lost dogs typically hide in quiet, wooded, or secluded spots, far from passing iPhones, meaning no updated location data.
Startle Risk: The AirTagβs sound feature cannot be controlled remotely and could startle your lost dog, causing them to bolt into danger.
Choking Hazard: Their small size makes them a swallowing risk, especially when dangling from collars or harnesses.
How Tractive Works: Tractive is a cellular GPS tracking device that connects to satellites through the local GSM cellular network. Paired with Bluetooth, the device offers real-time accurate tracking locations, allowing you to view your dogβs movements live on the map. The light and sound features can be controlled directly in the app.
The device has a rechargeable battery that lasts from days to weeks, depending on your settings. Tractive offers health insights, such as activity level, licking, sleep, and drinking behavior.
π¨ Important Reminder! Even the best GPS tracker is not a substitute for prevention. No device can prevent your lost dog from being hit by a car or train, drowning, or being stolen. Always pair tracking with secure equipment and safe handling practices.
