StandUp4CleanUp Community Association of dedicated volunteers and businesses aimed to clean up and promote action. Thank you, Miigwetch

StandUp4CleanUp, is grassroots movement propelled by citizens of the community and our partners, that has four main priorities ;

TO promote educational experiences around human impact on the environment, to better understand how we can reduce our footprint and reconnected with nature. TO empower citizens to succeed through involvement and celebration of good efforts to better our home, offering v

olunteer hours and job referrals for those who are in need. TO clean up and restore our natural spaces, such as waterways, parks, streets and anywhere that can raise awareness to human impact on the environment and our well being. TO make the most impact by bringing the community together, united in duty, love and activism, that they feel not only empowered by, but responsible for acts environmental stewardship and to share lessons about the value of the land. We are always looking for new volunteers and input on how to est impact our impact together! We also encourage individual's to link themselves in by posting what they did to tackle human impact on the environment ( particularly waste ) saying "Doing my part to and save the world" or whatever slogan fits the hashtag. I

We recently volunteered in the restoration efforts of the Fort William Business District BIA, Joshua stopped by with his weedwacker, gloves and elbow grease, and pulled up the majority of the weeds outside this strip of Victoria Avenue outside Centennial Square.

We will be around more in the next couple weeks to remove the weeds remaining in the area that were formerly cut but not removed, and we do this for the memories of the southside, for the BIA and the future of what this downtown core can be if we and put in the work.

We are happy to help our friends as they help bring back life to this area including the The Tilted Turret Pinball Pub another area sponsor.

A few years back, one of our volunteers and friends Colton, died of a drug overdose that could have been prevented by people using with him who did not call 911 or apply a Naxalone kit.

Colton H. was a close friend and former roommate of Joshua, his loss was devastating to their family and friends like Joshua who only wanted the best for him.

Today we honor you, we see you and love you Colton, you will never be forgotten. We stand against overdose and support those seeking a new path in recovery. 💜💜💜

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is observed every year on August 31 to honor the lives lost to overdose, support those grieving, and raise awareness about the urgent need for prevention and education. This is where all the bikes from the city's Thunder Bay Solid Waste & Recycling Services second-life program should go. All these bicycles could be sent here to help the less fortunate, we'd also love to see Bicycles for Humanity Thunder Bay send bicycles to northern communities in Ontario as well as Africa, maybe Big Trout Lake aka Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug

The City's Second Spin bike reuse program has wrapped up for the season, having diverted 187 good-condition bikes from the Landfill! They are now being enjoyed in the community. We thank all who participated in the 2026 program. 🙂 More info: www.thunderbay.ca/secondspin/

Today Kimmy and Joshua met up across from Grace Place Thunder Bay and proceeded to clean around and out these semi trucks where people had been sleeping and using a lot. It was so bad Grace Place was posting about it a couple weeks ago.

We saw it and had it on our radar already, knowing someone else had it in their sights and were concerned was even more of a motivation to make the trip and specifically make an exception to clean this up and ultimately we cannot do it all until the people staying in them are gone and the trucks themselves are gone or fenced up.

We round up 17 bags of garbage, over 20 needles and miscellaneous debris. 🚮🚯 and we did leave behind peoples bedding and clear belongings.

We made this clean up to honor our recently passed friend and volunteer, Jessie Anderson, one of the few faces on our banners and will remain as such in memory and honor of her contributions to StandUp4CleanUp and what StandUp4CleanUp means, to us and everyone in this community.💚🌿

She motivated and encouraged people to join often and support what we do, she knew what it took to and care for your community and what Thunder Bay's giant heart was really about, because she had one. Thank you for all your help and for being our friend Jessie, we will never forget you, may you rest in peace 🙏
