Thank you to all of the fantastic folks that came out on Thursday to lend a hand doing some maintenance on the Brent Park Pump Track. We weeded, back filled, and dug up all manner of things, very productive. Look for an October date on season ending clean up. Thanks again. Have a great long weekend.

New activity use at Brent park tonight. Baseball practice went old school "sandlot" style. Our little league team needed a field to practice on and Brent Park obliged. Thanks to the parents and kids who made it a great night.

Well, it took a bit longer than I wanted, but the first ski track is officially complete in the park. It's a 260m loop that runs through parts of the woods and the parkette. It isn't perfect, there are few branches in the way, and the little downhill can be a bit scary (tree at the bottom), but if you want to do a short ski in town, a couple of laps at the park are waiting for you.

As I learn more about track creation (and the tools for it) I will work on improving the lines and turns, but for now, it needs a few more skiers, so grab the kids and go take a few spins please.

That little island of overgrowth started off as an experiment. We planted trees and perennials (thanks Kyla and Charlie), but were soon over run by the grass, so we left it. It may look a little funky, but it is an absolute haven for insect life. The crickets are crazy, there is a back ground buzz from the bees and other critters, and everywhere you look something is jiggling and moving about. It may not have worked out how we planned, but it is an oasis of life in a desert of grass. Check it out!

I am a little overdue in posting this, but we have our SIGN!!! Thanks to the City of Thunder Bay (Parks, Corry and Werner) for creating this lovely testament to neighbourly endeavours. A huge thank you to our generous sponsors, listed on the back of the sign, for helping make the pump track happen. We are still hoping to do a grand opening and/or a modification evening this Fall.

Second update; the heavily vegetated island beside the park is an experiment in how uncultivated (not cut) spaces develop. It's supposed to look a bit "bushy" and unkept. There are some plans for that space in the future, but for now it's observe and learn. Feel free to share that with people that might be wondering or complaining, ha.
