This past weekend, Thompson RCMP completed traffic stops that resulted in taking two impaired drivers off the roads.
On July 11, at approximately 8:50 pm, Thompson Traffic Services patrolling Highway 391 between Thompson and Nelson House observed a vehicle travelling at a speed of 144km/hr. in the posted 90 km/hr. zone.
The vehicle was stopped, and police spoke to the male driver who was unable to produce a license.
Checks of his license revealed it was suspended.
The driver was also asked to provide a breath sample, to which he an produced a FAIL result.
The 24-year-old from Nelson House was arrested for operation while impaired and transported to the Thompson detachment.
Two teenagers in the vehicle were provided a ride to a safe location, and the vehicle was impounded.
The driver was later released with a license suspension, a serious offence notice, and tickets for speeding, and driving while disqualified.
A few hours later, the same officer apprehended another impaired driver. This time, a vehicle was observed leaving a local restaurant, with significant windshield condensation.
The vehicle drove slowly down Thompson Drive, before turning onto Mystery Lake Road, when it was stopped.
Upon approach, the driver was noted to be visibly intoxicated and told officers he would he would fail the breathalyzer.
The 22-year-old male from Thompson, provided two results of “FAIL.”
The vehicle was impounded, and the drivers license was suspended.
