Today is International Credit Union Day, and the latest figures from the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) give a useful picture of the scale and direction of the movement.

At the end of 2025, around 61,838 credit unions and financial cooperatives across 93 countries served nearly 420 million members and managed US$3.98 trillion in assets.

The report also points to some of the issues shaping what comes next: regulation, digital competition, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and governance. It also includes new data on leadership, with women holding around 28% of board seats across the sample reviewed.

In a new Co-op News piece, WOCCU President and CEO Paul Treinen reflects on trust, purposeful innovation, governance, member engagement and the continued importance of the cooperative model.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Calling all NLFC members and associate members! ๐Ÿ“ฃ

We invite you to join us in our co-op week member networking event, October 14, 2026 from 4:30pm-6:30pm at the Breezeway! Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

We will also be giving the floor to our members to provide an update on what their co-op has been working on, or a brief overview of their co-op. This will be a great opportunity to meet with other leaders in the co-operative sector in the province and share ideas. We hope to see you there!

Happy Coop Week!

SABRI Innovation has joined the Cooperative movement and will be celebrating the rural strength it inspires in community, this week and every week. Watch for our posts all week long. Take time to learn more about cooperatives.

In the coming days our NORTHERN LEGACY ARTS COOPERATIVE will be incorporated and we will be launching forward. We are excited to bring our Atlantic heritage to life through the arts.

Stage. Launch. Anchor!
