Everyone deserves to feel safe in their relationship.

Clare’s Law was created to provide information that can help people make informed decisions about their safety.

Clare’s Law (officially known as the Interpersonal Violence Disclosure Protocol Act), allows police to share certain information with people who may be at risk of intimate partner violence. Those who feel at risk can request specific information about their partner’s violent or abusive history through an application which is processed by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC).

Intimate partner violence can take many forms, including physical violence, threats, controlling behavior, emotional abuse and financial control. Knowing the signs and understanding your options can help protect you and those you care about.

St. Anthony and Area Violence Prevention Team held a Take Back the Night event this week. Thanks to all who came out, despite the rain, to recognize this important event. We appreciate the support.

Violent online groups such as “The COM” are largely composed of youth who seek to victimize other youth.

Teach your kids that:
• Just because someone is their age, doesn’t mean they’re safe.
• They shouldn’t engage in anything that makes them uncomfortable or would get them in trouble with you
• It’s never too late to seek help from parents, educators, counsellors, practitioners, police or other trusted adults – they're here to help!
