We have a new featured artist displaying works in the upper gallery and they feel like a balm to the soul.

Wesley Jobe is a watercolour painter and digital illustrator based in Victoria, BC. To create his works, he draws inspiration from mushrooms, old architecture, natural textures, and misty, sparkly light effects.

When you gaze at Wesley’s paintings in our gallery the following words may just come to mind: mystical, ethereal, magical, playful, whimsical, spiritual. You can’t just gaze over the top of one of his paintings—you need to dive down inside it, discovering what’s there to explore. (Perhaps there are chairs in this room for a reason! Feel free to pull one up to a painting you like and sit with it for a while.)

Wesley works to express and advocate for autism and ADHD. In his words, “Art can be a personal therapy and a safe way to express things that are challenging or intangible otherwise.” He will be donating a portion of all sales from this show to advocacy organizations such as ASAN, to “continue the support and education around these topics and bring light to these beautiful ways of being human.”

Wesley’s featured artist exhibition will continue at our Church Road gallery in until October 4, 2026. Our arts council is a welcoming space for all individuals. We encourage you to bring your friends and family to come visit us anytime during our opening hours Wed-Sun, 11-4.

Big thanks to our volunteer Leigh-Anne who has given us so much of her precious time this year as a gift shop volunteer.

Leigh-Anne is soon leaving us to move to another city so we thought we’d celebrate her last day with us by having her model Lynda Slater’s stunning dyed silk duster.

Doesn’t it look great on her? This duster is available in our gift shop on Church Road.

Thanks again, Leigh-Anne, you will be heartily missed! 💜

We recently posted about the "oodles of poodles" available in our gallery, but did you know that we also recently participated in creating oodles of doodles?

Thanks to super volunteers Carina Strong and Claire Strong, who recently ran a Doodle Booth as a Sooke Arts Council fundraiser, sketching likenesses of people who dropped a donation into the Doodle Booth's money slot.

They dropped their money in, waited a bit, and p**f! Out came a small handcrafted sketch!

What a fun way to celebrate the arts in our community. Thanks to everyone who participated, and to Claire and Carina for sharing their amazing drawing talents!

We’re pleased to welcome Wesley Jobe as our next Featured Artist, on display in our upper gallery from September 2 to October 4.

Wesley is a watercolour painter whose work evokes deeper feeling through contemplation nestled in serene, vast spaces. Based in Victoria, BC, he draws inspiration from mushrooms, vulnerability, old architecture, and shiny objects.

Wesley was an avid art student throughout school and remembers doing a lot of home crafts with his sister at the dining table. Welsey’s art world grew from being totally scared of paint to the point at which his partner taught him gently how to watercolour!

Wesley works to express and advocate for autism and ADHD. Art can be a personal therapy and a safe way to express things that are challenging or unavailable otherwise. And he hopes to inspire people to see things in unique ways and consider different perspectives, with a healthy volume of appreciation and love.

Visit Wesley’s show at our gallery on Church Road in Sooke, BC.

Linda M. Anderson has several works exhibiting in our current show, Dog Days of Summer, right now, including these three pieces.

If you’re visiting our fair town right now, one of these might make a lovely reminder of your time here. Whether it be orcas splashing in the waves, a rippling forest waterfall, or a serene sail towards the morning mists, any of these scenes might conjure up good memories of your time in Sooke or perhaps visiting other parts of Vancouver Island.

Our gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11-4. Come peruse Linda’s works in this current show as well as some of her other items in our gift shop space. We’d love to show you around.

We have a selection of new beaded jewellery in the gift shop by Mira Koerner-Safrata. Come explore their textures, colours, and combinations if you’re looking for a little gift for yourself or someone else.

If you’re not familiar with who our organization is, or what we do, we are the arts council for Sooke Region and part of what we do is “to encourage creative participation in and excellence in the arts”.

That means whether you’re an emerging or established artist, you can become a member of the arts council and submit your artistic items for inclusion in our gift shop, or participate in one of our exhibitions. Browse our website at sookearts.com for more info, or DM us if you have questions.

Thanks, Mira, for bringing your talents to our space to share with our community!

Artist Danny Chico Amato is well known for painting on natural surfaces, but this one was a total surprise!

This work, currently on exhibition in our Dog Days of Summer show, has been painted on a mushroom. As is described on Danny Chico’s artist page with us, inspiration here on the West Coast is bountiful for him, from the magical coastal beaches and into the wild forest.

Explore the magical textures and pigments in “Sea Dog” until Sept 13 at our gallery on Church Road in Sooke.

There are monsters among us! Well, at the gift shop anyway. 🤪

These little cuties have arrived from artist Jennie Levesque and are lurching off the shelves, likely into the arms of monster-appreciating kids of all ages!

While you’re at our gift shop cuddling Jennie’s monsters, check out her new blingy cards and felted items as well. Jennie is multi-talented, so we never know what she is going to create for us next!
