This is just a selection of the gorgeous glassworks we have in the gift shop by artists Vali McGillivary, Gail Blais, and Caroline Brown.

While taking expert photos of these items in our setting isn’t always easy, we know you’ll appreciate their sparkly beauty if you drop by to view them in person.

Each week we have new visitors—tourists and locals alike—stopping in for the first time at our gallery. What’s inside is always changing so if you haven’t been in for a while, please stop in!

Join writer and poet DK Eve (Doni) on Sunday, November 1, for a creative afternoon exploring how words can be used much like paint to create something beautiful and original.

Whether you're brand new to poetry or have been writing for years, Doni will guide you through fun and engaging activities to help you see words in new ways and create your own original poetry.

Congratulations to Linda M. Anderson, who has sold the original work titled “Abundance of Poppies” in our current exhibition.

The Abundance show is a celebration of life’s bounty in the autumnal season. Come check out additional works by Megan Evans, LauRa Barker, Jennie Levesque, Linda Green Abraham, and other talented artists before the show closes on November 8.

🎃 Join us on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, from 1–4 pm.

Bring your little ghosts, goblins, witches, and superheroes to the Sooke Arts Council for a Halloween treat!

We'll have some fun little surprises for the kids (while supplies last), and grown-ups are welcome to browse our gallery and gift shop for original art and handmade treasures by local artists and makers.

Costumes are encouraged (we'll be donning ours), and everyone is welcome!

Sunset from Captain Passage is a small acrylic painting by artist Rebecca Girouard, available in our gift shop.

Rebecca says, on her website, that her travels take her to some of Vancouver Island’s most beautiful places and that she’s honoured to have the opportunity to capture and share them through her paintings. We can certainly see how this work might transport a person mentally to somewhere wonderful!

This small piece also would give you an opportunity to purchase original art at an affordable price while supporting local Sooke artists. If it speaks to you, come see it in person at our gift shop and gallery on Church Road when it opens again on Wednesday 11-4.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for November 12, when our Small Works exhibition opens in the gallery. Along with the upcoming Holiday Maker’s Market in the gift shop, our space will be a perfect opportunity for you to shop for yourself or your loved ones for the holidays!

The BC Arts Council has a grant process open for Individual Arts Grants: Visual Artists.

Here's the description:

Individual Arts Grants: Visual Artists supports professional visual artists, contemporary and traditional craft artists, and independent critics and curators with the creation of specific projects.

Grants are available to support the creation of new works. Applications may be made by individuals or on behalf of a collaboration of two or more artists sharing creative control of a project.

Independent curators and critics may apply to further their practice independently from art organizations or institutions. Applications may investigate visual and media arts and/or museum practice.

The Little Fox Day is a fibre arts piece currently exhibiting as part of Jennie Levesque’s featured artist show in our upper gallery.

If you’re aware of Jennie’s work, you know she is a needle felting queen! Come visit this little fox—and all of Jennie’s other works in this beautiful show—anytime Wed-Sun, 11-4.

Have you ever wondered how artists turn a reference photo into a painting that draws you in and makes you feel something?

Join artist Linda M. Anderson this Sunday, October 25, from 1–4 p.m. for "From Reference to Masterpiece", a workshop to explore the important first steps in creating a painting.

In this interactive, hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to plan a strong composition, make intentional choices about colour and light and dark values, and guide the viewer's eye through your artwork.

You'll leave with a completed drawing and a clear plan that you can transfer to canvas or board and develop into a finished painting.

No previous painting experience necessary! Linda will guide you through the process step by step, and all materials are provided. Bring your own reference photos or choose from ones Linda will bring.

Artist Danny Chico Amato has three works of art in our current show, Abundance, on at the gallery until November 8.

Forest Vision is a print, available for $75, and Flying Seagulls #1 and #2 are oil on plywood, each available for $70.

Danny Chico calls Jordan River home and applies various artforms in his daily life. Come see these exhibition works, as well as the items Danny Chico has in our gift shop, in person anytime Wed-Sun 11-4.
