It was a pleasure for us to be involved in the Sooke Philharmonic's Secret Garden Tour last weekend.

If you came out to enjoy this event, either by purchasing tickets, or by dropping by our gallery and gift shop on either Saturday or Sunday as one of the special event locations, we thank you!

If you are new to the work of our arts council, here's a refresher:

The Sooke Arts Council (SAC) is a registered not-for-profit society dedicated to promoting and supporting the arts within the Sooke community.

Funded by the BC Arts Council and the District of Sooke, SAC serves as a hub for artists, art enthusiasts, and the broader public to engage with various forms of artistic expression.

This means our support of the arts in our community goes way beyond what happens at the physical location of our gallery and gift shop on Church Road. When you support SAC, you support the arts in Sooke Region. Thank you!

It’s thrilling to be able to tell you that some of Megan Evans’ pieces have been sold in her show in the upper gallery. Megan is currently our featured artist and she’s sold so many that she had to bring in more paintings to fill the wall spaces! 🤪👏

Take a look through these images to see some of the paintings which are still available, but know that she has more work in our current show, My Secret Garden, as well. (This really means you should come into the gallery to see both shows!)

Brava, Megan, we are so pleased your work is resonating with art buyers who visit our gallery. 💜 We are open again Wed-Sun 11-4.

Announcement for member artists who have items in the gift shop…

We are refreshing the items in our gift shop and our gift shop coordinator has just tried to contact several artists to pick up their items which are due for outtake, but is unable to reach everyone by email or phone.

Please check your phone messages and email inboxes, including your junk mail, to see if you have a message from Rebecca.

Those artists who have been notified of impending outtakes need to pick up their items no later than June 21 at 4pm closing time. Unretrieved items will go to the SAC Yard Sale or to the thrift shop.

Note that this message did not go to all artists. If you are unsure of whether your items need to be picked up, please contact Rebecca at [email protected].

Thank you!

Our next artist call is for "Dog Days of Summer", with upcoming show dates of July 22 to Sept 13.

Dog Days of Summer will celebrate heat, haze, and creative fire. As the long, sun-soaked days stretch on and the world slows beneath the summer heat, artists find inspiration in the glow, the stillness, and the restless energy of the season.

The Dog Days of Summer invites works that capture the essence of this sultry time—from shimmering light on water and golden afternoons to the languid calm of a lazy day or the feverish heat of colour and emotion.

Artists are invited to interpret those timeless, heat-drenched days when creativity burns brightest.

Submission deadline is July 18. Intake day will be July 19 from 1-4pm.

To submit, you must be a Sooke Arts Council member. Then, find the Forms section of our website (sookearts.com) and choose Gallery Show Form.

We look forward to your submissions!
