☀️ Check out photos of the SIP Field Team this season as they focus on two main projects!
For the Fire Stewardship Program, the team returned to 72 burned and unburned control sites that were visited in 2021 following the 2018 wildfires. One shift the team caught a float plane into Tweedsmuir Provincial Park which was exceptionally special!
The crew worked their way west to east from the Nadina to the Tezzeron burns, camping, cooking, embroidering, and dodging mosquitoes and black flies along the way. The goal of their visits were to re-measure forest health and regeneration. With this data, they will better understand the effects of wildfires for many things, such as future harvest potential and regeneration.
The second project, Multiple Values Program, was completed in collaboration with the Office of the Wet’suwet’en. This program works to determine how innovative harvest techniques can support multiple values, including wildfire resilience, harvest and silviculture goals, and wildlife habitat suitability. Established wildlife cameras were located within harvest areas and paired with on-the-ground stand and habitat assessments.
Congratulations to the SIP Field Team on a successful season!
