This Pride Month, we proudly stand with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. 🌈

At Norfolk General Hospital, the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home, and Holmes House, we are committed to creating safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces for everyone.

Every person deserves to feel safe being themselves when receiving care, visiting loved ones, volunteering, or coming to work.

We know many people in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community continue to face barriers in healthcare and everyday life. That is why inclusion must be more than words. It requires learning, listening, respect, and action.

Through our Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti Racism (IDEA) initiative and our commitment to inclusion as a core value, we continue working to build spaces where people feel welcomed, supported, heard, and valued.

To our patients, residents, families, staff, physicians, volunteers, and community members who are part of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community:

You belong here. You are respected here. You are welcome here. ❤

🏆 Registered Nurse Taylor Timpf receives the 2026 Shannon Adams Nursing Excellence Award

At Norfolk General Hospital, Shannon Adams left a lasting impact on patients, families, and coworkers.

She was known for her compassion, humour, and the way she supported people through difficult moments. Although Shannon passed away in 2022, her influence as a nurse and friend continues to be felt across the hospital today.

During National Nursing Week, NGH presented the 2026 Shannon Adams Nursing Excellence Award to Maternal Newborn Registered Nurse Taylor Timpf.

Taylor was nominated by her fellow nurses for the care, support, and compassion she brings to patients, families, and coworkers each day.

“Shannon had an unmatched warmth about her,” Taylor said. “She was always willing to lend a hand and made everyone feel important and respected. To have my peers feel that I am deserving of this recognition is the highest praise I could ever receive.”

We also want to recognize this year’s nominees: Shannon Bailey, Wendy Gee, Maya Pineo, Laura Stoepker, and Sarah Webb.

Being nominated by your peers reflects the difference each of these nurses makes every day at NGH. ❤🙏😁

Today is Personal Support Worker Day and we are proud to recognize the important work of PSWs at Norfolk General Hospital and the Norfolk Hospital Nursing Home. 💖

Personal Support Workers play a critical role in patient and resident care every single day.

They help people with meals, mobility, personal care, comfort, and daily routines. They support patients and residents during difficult moments and help people maintain their dignity, independence, and quality of life.

PSWs are an important part of the care team and help support patients and residents throughout their healthcare journey.

Their work also helps strengthen the entire healthcare team by supporting patient care across our hospital and nursing home.

Today, we thank our PSWs for the care, compassion, and dedication they bring to our organization and community every day.

Happy Personal Support Worker Day. 💖

👋 Meet Jessie, a Clinical Scholar and Registered Practical Nurse at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH).

It’s National Nursing Week, and we’re proud to spotlight Jessie, a nurse who helps guide, mentor, and support fellow nurses across NGH.

As a Clinical Scholar, Jessie supports nurses through critical events, daily clinical responsibilities, skill development, and evidence-based practice. Her role helps build confidence, strengthen patient care, and support nursing teams across the hospital.

Jessie says her journey into nursing was shaped by a deeply personal experience.
When Jessie’s mother was receiving end of life care at NGH during her childhood, the compassion shown by nurses left a lasting impact on her and her family.

“They not only cared for my mother with skill and dignity, but they also cared for us as a family during one of the most difficult moments of our lives,” she says.

Jessie says that experience inspired her to pursue nursing and carry that same compassion forward for others.

Jessie says working at NGH carries special meaning for her.

“NGH feels like home to me,” she says. “It’s where I was born, where I have experienced some of life’s most pivotal moments, and where I have experienced the most growth both personally and professionally.”

Jessie says one of the most meaningful parts of her role is supporting the nurses around her.

“In a small community like ours, we care for one another like family,” she says.

Thank you, Jessie, for the leadership, mentorship, and support you provide to nurses, patients, and families every day. We are so fortunate to have you on our team! Happy National Nursing Week! 💜🙏😁

👋 Meet Kali, a Registered Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Norfolk General Hospital (NGH).

During National Nursing Week, we’re proud to spotlight Kali, an ICU nurse who provides specialized care to critically ill patients and supports families during some of the most difficult moments they may face.

Kali has been part of the NGH team for nearly two years and says nursing stood out to her because it combines critical thinking with human connection.

“You’re not just solving problems,” she says. “You’re present with people through some of the most important moments of their lives.”

For Kali, great patient care means paying close attention to every detail while helping patients and families feel informed and supported.

“It’s recognizing subtle changes early, thinking clearly, and acting quickly,” she says. “But it’s also taking the time to talk to patients and families during a really stressful time.”

One experience that has stayed with her was supporting a patient and their family during end of life care.

“It wasn’t about interventions at that point,” she says. “It was about comfort, dignity, and support.”

Kali says that moment reminded her how important nursing care can be, even when the goal is no longer to fix a problem, but to help patients and families feel supported.

She also values the teamwork and learning environment at NGH.

“Working at NGH means being part of a team that values high quality, patient centered care,” she says. “Attention to detail, teamwork, and communication really make a difference in patient outcomes.”

Kali says nursing can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding, but also deeply meaningful.

“It’s one of the few careers where you can have a real impact on someone’s life every single day,” she says.

Thank you, Kali, for your dedication, professionalism, and compassionate care in the ICU. Happy National Nurses Week! 💜🙏😁
