Today is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day.

At Norfolk General Hospital, we join families across the world in remembering the babies who were gone too soon. Pregnancy and infant loss touch many lives, yet the conversations around miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss often remain difficult and unspoken.

We remember:

👼 Babies born sleeping
💜 Those carried but never held
🌸 Those held but never brought home
🦋 Those brought home but could not stay

To all parents who have faced these losses, we remember your babies with you. We stand with you in your grief and honour the strength it takes to carry on.

If you feel comfortable, you are invited to share your baby’s name, a memorial tattoo, a song, or a book that helped you in the comments below, so we can remember with you.

Today, we also lower our flags in their honour. ❤

Just a simple, kind reminder.

What feels like a mild cold to you could be much more serious for someone in the hospital 😷

As we enter respiratory illness season, Norfolk General Hospital is encouraging patients and visitors to consider wearing a medical-grade face mask in patient-facing and clinical areas throughout our facilities.

Many of our patients are already dealing with health challenges, and even common respiratory illnesses can make recovery more difficult. Choosing to wear a mask is a simple way to help protect the people around you and support a safer environment for healing.

Here are a few ways you can help:

✅ Consider wearing a medical-grade mask in patient-facing and clinical areas.
✅ If you are feeling unwell, please avoid visiting a loved one in the hospital until you're feeling better.
✅ If you need medical care, please continue to seek care when needed.
✅ Masks are available at all public entrances.

Thank you for helping us keep our hospital safe and supporting the recovery of those in our care.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If you notice a change in your breast, or something just doesn’t feel right, please talk to a healthcare provider. You don’t have to wait for a routine mammogram to get checked.

And even if you feel well, breast screening is an important part of taking care of your health. If you’re 40 or older, you can book your own mammogram through the Ontario Breast Screening Program. No referral is needed.
