There was much to appreciate during our tour of this Blind Bay home garden.

Two young children figured prominently in the garden planning, with this delightful 'road construction' area at the front of the house, and more to come in the backyard.
Rita's peonies lined the front drive, and an eclectic combination of well placed plantings charmed the spacious rear yard. Again, space had been made for the children, with a trampoline, an ample yard for running and playing as well as large playset.

Rita and her husband have worked hard, very successfully, in creating this beautiful family oasis!

Thank you to our garden tour hosts, Ann & Clint S!

Walking through the carport, visitors are greeted by a rustic cedar split-rail fence and a magnificent climbing hydrangea that serves as a natural privacy screen, sheltering a cozy patio beyond. Much of the garden enjoys dappled shade and filtered sunlight, creating a cool and inviting atmosphere.

The focal point of the yard is a stunning red Japanese maple, likely a โ€˜Bloodgoodโ€™, whose rich foliage provides interest. A particular highlight was a rare yellow peony, an uncommon sight and a true collectorโ€™s treasure. Combined with the gardenโ€™s tranquil setting, these special plants made this landscape a memorable stop on the tour.

The gardens, the gardens, the gardens - so much beauty in the Shuswap!

Our hosts for this tour, Nancy and Tim, have focused their efforts on creating an impressive front-yard landscape. Terraced retaining walls provide structure and visual interest, with each garden bed planted intentionally to showcase a harmonious blend of textures, forms, and colours. Carefully placed strips of lawn soften the design and make ongoing maintenance more manageable, resulting in a garden that is both beautiful and practical.

More Garden Tours - June 9.
Despite the rain, visitors to the gardens were undeterred, arriving equipped with rain jackets and umbrellas. The weather did little to diminish the enjoyment of the day. In Salmon Arm, gardeners often face the challenge of working with slopes, and each garden showcased a unique and creative approach to the landscape.

Seven years in the making, this remarkable garden is truly a labour of love. Rows of ornamental grasses draw the eye toward the front entrance, but it is upon entering the backyard that the full scope of the transformation becomes apparent. Gravel pathways with carefully placed stepping stones invite visitors deeper into the garden, each turn revealing a new perspective.

Two pond and stream water features create a sense of tranquility, while several thoughtfully placed seating areas offer peaceful spots to pause and enjoy the surroundings. A charming red-brick pathway leads beneath an arbour draped in clematis and wisteria. Vegetables and fruit-bearing plants are woven throughout the landscape, blending beauty with productivity. And as a delightful finishing touch, chickens happily call the garden home.

Now that we've enjoyed the beauty of this plant - it's time to prep it for next year's glory.

Here is some advice from Gardening Chores.

Irises after flowering can look a bitโ€ฆ tired. One week, they are exploding with those extraordinary ruffled blooms in shades of violet, lavender, buttery
