Please sign the petition from the DSF. Why do we care? Because Bill C-39, the Building Canada Strong Act, will dangerously downgrade federal assessments of infrastructure and industrial projects like ports and pipelines. The bill also weakens permitting requirements meant to protect nature. Building Canada Strong should mean building Canada well: by protecting nature, communities and Indigenous rights — not with a rubber-stamping exercise. It should mean standing firm on Canada’s environmental standards and commitment to uphold free, prior and informed consent.

Don't be anxious to clip all those flower heads off before winter! There's benefit to leaving vegetation for our native bees and beneficial insects that use them for nesting and overwintering habitat. Unfortunately, traditional landscaping practices rarely leave enough of these places to support pollinators and other wildlife. One of the most valuable ways to support pollinators and other invertebrates is to provide them with the shelter they need to survive the winter. Thankfully, all you need to do is do less yard work.

As communities continue to face the compounding economic and environmental costs of extreme weather events, the Shuswap Climate Action Society has launched a voter information initiative to help residents evaluate where local provincial candidates stand on the climate crisis.

To provide voters with clear insights before they cast their ballots, the Shuswap Climate Action Society invited all five candidates running in the Salmon Arm-Shuswap electoral district to outline their respective party's climate platforms, commitments, and personal perspectives on climate action.

Elizabeth May, the federal Green Party leader, has sponsored a Parliamentary Petition e-7809, asking our PM to: 1) accelerate the connection of our electricity transmission infrastructure across Canada, 2) build out renewable electricity systems (solar, wind, geothermal and batteries) at scale, 3) support programs to radically reduce carbon emissions from residential, commercial and industrial sectors, for both new and existing buildings and industrial plants, 4) transition the transportation sector from fossil fuels to battery power, and 5) redirect the billions of dollars in annual fossil fuel subsidies to help fund the Build Canada Stronger Climate Program.
