On Friday two of our members, Maegan and Zaidee, travelled to Carstairs after school to attend the Rafter U7 Ultimate Bull Fighting Experience and Equss Experience Saturday April 18. Here is what they had to say.
We thought it might be a little boring when we got there but it was actually really fun! Except that we got separated into different groups. The Equine portion had us spending time with five different horses observing their body language and how they communicate with each other. Maegan’s favourite horse was Ringo and Zaidee’s favourite was Whiskey.
The Bull Fighting experience taught us cowboy protection (how to protect the bull rider after he has fallen off) as well as how to out maneuver the bovine to protect ourselves from bulls, angry mommy cows or any cow that decides they don’t want us in the pen. We both won the game of bull fighting tag in our groups and got to compete against each other in a 30 second freestyle bull fighting match which we each got a Ultimate Bull Fighting Experience hat to take home. We also got to try out the clown barrel and watch the real bull fighters in action. Maegan now believes she’s the next Cody Webster and Zaidee is the best bull fighter. It was so much fun it was worth the ten hours in the car. Videos are in the comments!

On Saturday April 11 we went to the Bonnyville Farmers Market to sell chocolates, fudge and spices. We also set up a trailer in the Wholesale parking lot to collect clothing and household items for our FunDrive Community Collection Day. Our next collection day is April 26 in St. Paul at the AG Corral parking lot on the north side of the arena.

Our members are doing a Fun Drive this spring! Plan ahead for your spring cleaning with two community drop off days and locations or make arrangements with us to donate your gently used items before/after those dates if you need.

On February 7 the Iron River Wranglers went to the Bonnyville AG society for our club level communications. Our first place winners for our speeches were Erika Derksen, Gracie Beck, and Lilly Dawe. Then for our first place in our Presentations was Maegan Gooler, Zaidee Heraid, and Ollie Schoch/Alina Gooler and in second place for our presentations is Ariana Lebed Huge thanks to our judges and a special thanks to Altalink for sponsoring and the Bonnyville agricultural society for a place to hold our communications.

On January 31 five members from Iron River Wranglers (Alina, Gracie, Meagan, Ollie and Zaidee) went to You Be The Judge 2026 in Vermilion at the Lakeland College. We learned how to judge animals and items participating in many fun activities and exercises. They brought us to actual heifers and taught us how to judge them at the College Equine Center, when we got back to the lecture hall we were provided lunch and did a raffle to win 4H prizes. Then we did small exercises to practice judging different things like board games, water bottles to use on a hike or the perfect hat for a hot day. We all got certificates for attending the Best Day Ever! Thank You to Lakeland College for taking the time to teach us and the 4H District/Region the organized it.

We had an amazing day yesterday at the arena full of information and leaning. We want to thank one of our own. Calli S for being in her microscope and showing us how to collect and check f***l samples on our horses. Also want to thank Sheri Brydges from All Inclusive Equine for doing a presentation on Saddle fitting and Body Work and helping our members fit their sales and ensure our horses are feeling the best. Also Thank you to Killarney Sheffield for the amazing lesson.
