Today marks a historic moment for the Kivalliq region. KIA and Sakku Investment Corp are proud to celebrate the grand opening of SIBS, Nunavut’s first modular housing facility and first large scale manufacturing facility.

Located in Arviat and 100% Inuit owned, SIBS is transforming how homes and infrastructure are built in our region. For the first time, high quality housing can be built year round in Nunavut, by Inuit, for Inuit. Already, 14 of the first 15 employees are Inuit, with more than 40 full time jobs and over 100 indirect jobs expected as operations grow.

SIBS will produce approximately 80 housing modules a year, equivalent to about 40 homes designed for Arctic life, along with multiplexes, staff housing and commercial buildings.

SIBS represents what is possible when Inuit take the lead in building our communities, developing our people and investing in our own future. It is part of a larger moment of growth in the Kivalliq, alongside Inuit Nunangat’s University, the Kivalliq Hydro Fibre Link and new commercial development.
