Earlier today, Princeton GSAR was activated for a report of an injured kayaker along the Similkameen River west of Princeton. Due to the location and limited safe access from the ground, aerial support was requested to assist with the evacuation.

PGSAR members including Swift Water members responded alongside mutual aid members from Penticton & District Search & Rescue and a flight crews from Eclipse Helicopters Ltd. The patient was safely extracted by long line and transferred to BC Emergency Health Services crews waiting nearby.

Incidents like this highlight the value of strong inter-team cooperation and the importance of specialized rescue resources in remote terrain. Thank you to PenSAR, Eclipse Helicopters, and BCEHS for the coordinated effort and professionalism throughout the call.

We also want to acknowledge the injured paddler’s group, who were equipped for the environment and had begun providing care before rescue crews arrived. Preparation and quick action in the backcountry can have a major impact on outcomes.
