On Firefighters’ National Memorial Day, the members of the EVFD would like to honour all the firefighters, both professional and volunteer, across Canada who lost their lives in the line of duty.

From responding to wildland fires, structure fires or medical calls, men and women in the fire service put everything on the line to keep their communities safe.

Today is the 25th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, Pentagon and United Flight 93.

A total of 2,977 people perished that day, including 343 firefighters, 37 Port Authority police officers, 23 members of the New York City Police Department and eight emergency medical personnel.

Countless others have perished since then of the injuries they sustained that horrible day.

We will never forget.

Erris Tender 281 remains on deployment as part of Rapid Response Team 4. The team is now on task for the Ainslie Creek Fire (V10755), south west of Merritt.

Please be aware that the dark smoke aloft is from the Ainslie Creek Fire (V10755).

This fire became very aggressive this afternoon (08/10) and with winds from the West, the smoke is coming into our area.

Sadly, the devastation of the Bald Range Fire (Summerland) K54190 has become even more tragic as a person has lost their life while attempting to evacuate.

We extend our deepest condolences to their family and friends during this very, very difficult time.

Pictured with Erris T281 are members of “Rapid Response Team 4”.

The members were sent to Kamloops to form this team to deploy anywhere in the province. The members trained as a team for a day and then deployed out to the Big Bar Fire in Clinton and then to the Vernon Complex on the Fintry side of Okanagan Lake.

Apparatus included were: One Type 1 Engine from Pemberton, one Type 3 from Columbia Valley, two Type 6’s (one from Hope and one from Pemberton), and Erris’ Tender 281 as the Tactical Tender. Erris team member Bev said that it was a great team and she loved the idea of working as a unit because each member knew each other’s apparatus and crew which is very efficient.
