Today, our respite guests spent the afternoon reflecting on the things they are thankful for, taking time to appreciate the people and moments that make life special. Meanwhile, others enjoyed the Thanksgiving festivities with their roommates! 🧡

Whether celebrating with family, or friends, Thanksgiving is a wonderful reminder of the importance of connection, gratitude, and spending time together.

🧡 Today, we wore orange in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

At Community Living Durham North, we believe in creating a community where everyone is valued, respected, included, and has the opportunity to belong. Today, we take time to listen, learn, reflect, and honour the Survivors, the children who never returned home, and Indigenous families and communities.

Wearing orange is one small way we can show our commitment to remembering, learning, and continuing the journey toward reconciliation. 🧡

☀️ Making the Most of the Sunshine! ☀️

With all the sunshine and great weather we’ve been experiencing, it has been the perfect time to get outside, explore our community, and enjoy some fun adventures! 💚💙

We’ve been keeping busy with some pretty great adventures:

🎢 Canada’s Wonderland: We had a blast enjoying the rides, laughs, and excitement!

🚒 Whitby Waterfront Park: We drove down to the waterfront, where we were lucky enough to see some firetrucks and firefighters doing water rescue training! After watching the action, we enjoyed lunch and took a relaxing walk along the water. 🌊

🎨🎶 CONVERGENCE Music and Art Festival: We enjoyed a little bit of everything, from arts and crafts and live music to watching wrestling and checking out all the amazing local vendors along the way!

💙 Celebrating Our Developmental Support Professionals! 💚

Last week, we had the privilege of celebrating the incredible Developmental Support Professionals (DSPs) who make a difference in the lives of the people we support every single day!

We kicked off the week by celebrating employees who reached incredible years of service milestones, recognizing the dedication, commitment and experience they bring to our organization. 👏

Throughout the week, employees also took time to celebrate the little things and the big things that make a difference in their roles by sending electronic shout-outs to their colleagues, Managers and Directors. These messages of appreciation were a wonderful reminder of just how much we value and support one another. 💙💚
Our Managers and Directors visited program locations throughout the week to personally deliver a little appreciation to our employees with Tim Hortons gift cards. ☕🍩

We also had edible and non-edible treats available at both of our administrative locations for staff to pick up when they were in the office. From something tasty to enjoy to a little something to brighten their day, it was another small way for us to say thank you for all that you do!

And because our DSPs spend so much of their time caring for and supporting others, we encouraged everyone to take an extra 10-minute break one day during the week to pause, recharge and take care of themselves. 💚💙

We wrapped up the week with some fun gift card draws, recognizing employees who both sent and received shout-outs throughout the week! 🎁🎉

While DSP Week gave us a special opportunity to celebrate, we appreciate each and every one of you all year long. Thank you for the compassion, dedication, patience, creativity and care you bring to your work every day.

Your impact is felt in so many ways and we are grateful for all that you do! 💙💚💙
