Our neighbourhood has saints.

We are coming up on a trio of days that I have loved for a long time: Halloween, the Feast of All Saints, and the Feast of All Souls. I am grateful for the thin place that these days hold, and for the ways they remind us how close the worlds always are, even when they feel horribly far apart.

At this time of year, I am thinking especially of those who have lost beloved ones since this time last year, and whose grief is new and raw. And I am thinking also of those who have carried their grief for a long time.

These days invite us into memory and hope—and sorrow and joy and, most of all, love. Wherever you are, whatever you are holding, may you be met with solace and mysterious grace. This blessing is for you. Every single day.

Join Us for All Saints Sunday at 10 AM

Join us at Cedar Park United on Sunday, November 1, as we observe All Saints Day—a time to remember with gratitude those whose lives have touched and shaped our own.

During the service, we will honour members of our community who have died during the past year. Everyone will also be invited to light a candle in memory of a family member, friend or other loved one. In the words of Jesus, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”

Our Scripture reading will be the Beatitudes from Matthew 5:1–12. In the reflection “What Is Reality?”, we will consider Jesus’ vision of a world shaped not by fear, division and the pursuit of power, but by mercy, justice, peacemaking and hope.

Music will be an important part of our worship. Daniel Benedetti will offer music by Haydn, Debussy and Tchaikovsky; the choir will sing Don’t Be Afraid; and the congregation will share hymns including For All the Saints and We Shall Go Out with Hope of Resurrection. We will also celebrate communion together.

Whether your grief is recent or has been carried for many years, you are invited to bring the names, memories and stories of those you love. Whether you attend regularly, are returning after time away or are visiting for the first time, you are warmly welcome this Sunday at 10 AM.
