The Township has issued another update, which we are sharing below to help keep everyone informed. The work continues.

CTV News Barrie was also on-site today and conducted several interviews. Coverage is expected to air during tonight's 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. newscasts.

The Township of Tiny is continuing to work with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and the Farlain Lake Association regarding a spill at the north end of Farlain Lake.

In partnership with the MECP, containment and cleanup activities continue. A source and cause for the spill have still not been identified and the investigation remains ongoing.

The Township will continue to provide support for the MECP to find the root cause and take appropriate action.

Reminder:
For any residents that draw their drinking water directly from the lake, as a precaution, it is recommended to refrain from using the water while the investigation remains underway. The Township’s drinking water fill station at 39 Balm Beach Road can provide a free alternative for affected residents during this time.

The Township will share more information as it becomes available.

Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) and the Township of Tiny continue to actively work on the spill at the north end of Farlain Lake.

We would like to provide an update to all Farlain Lake residents and visitors regarding a suspected spill at the north end of Farlain Lake.

We have been sharing updates through our member communication channels and wanted to bring all the information together here so that residents and visitors have access to the details.

We became aware of a possible spill and reported the matter to the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP).

Since then, both the MECP and the Township of Tiny have been actively involved in investigating and addressing the situation.

The source and nature of the suspected spill have not yet been confirmed. Water samples have been collected, and we are awaiting laboratory results.

At the direction of the MECP, a containment boom was installed on October 26 around a property believed to be a possible source of the spill. This is a precautionary measure and does not mean the source has been confirmed.

Until we have more information about the nature of the suspected spill and any potential risks, the FLCA suggests that residents who draw water directly from Farlain Lake refrain from using it. This includes water used for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing dishes and other household purposes.

NOTE: is a precautionary recommendation from the FLCA, not an official water advisory issued by public health authorities.

Reporting Spills or Sharing Information

If you have information that may be relevant to the investigation, please share it directly with the appropriate authorities.

We also remind residents that spills or suspected spills should be reported promptly to the MECP Spills Action Centre at:

📞 1-866-663-8477

We recognize that this situation is concerning, particularly for residents who rely on lake water.

The Township of Tiny and MECP are actively working on the matter, and the FLCA will continue to share information as it becomes available.

PLEASE SLOW DOWN & KEEP AN EXTRA EYE OUT – TIMCOURT DRIVE

A quick safety alert for residents and visitors travelling along TimCourt Drive.

We have a resident living with dementia who enjoys going for walks in the neighbourhood. She sometimes walks in the middle of the road and, because of the twists and turns along TimCourt Drive, she can be difficult for drivers to see until they are quite close.

We’re asking everyone travelling along TimCourt Drive to please slow down, stay alert, and keep an extra eye out for her.

She has been givena a high-visibility safety vest, but she may not always be wearing it, so please don’t rely on the vest to spot her.

A little extra caution and patience can make a big difference in helping keep a member of our lake community safe.

Thank you for looking out for one another.

A Nintendo Switch was found yesterday on the road at the corner of Military Rd and Andrew Drive.

If this is yours or you know who it might belong to, please contact the FLCA at [email protected] as soon as possible so we can arrange to get it returned.

For the Farlain Lake Residents who are on Municipal Water:

Please be advised that the Township of tiny will be flushing water mains in your area from September 8, 2026 to September 11, 2026, which may impact municipal water users.

There may be potential water interruptions and discoloured water could stain laundry during these times. If your water remains discoloured or dirty, run the water until it is clear. It is recommended that water softeners are left in by-pass mode during water main flushing.
This is a vital process to ensure the distribution systems are in good working order for when they are needed most. The process will also remove any accumulated sediment that may be built up in the pipes and help ensure the cleanest water possible.
The Township of Tiny’s water distribution system is a complex network of pipes and storage reservoirs where sediment or deposits may naturally accumulate over time. If not removed, these materials may cause water quality deterioration, taste and odour problems, or discolouration of the water.

To view the 2026 fall water main flushing schedule, please visit our website at www.tiny.ca/drinkingwater. The required work will take place during the week, Monday to Friday, only between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
