Ottawa Dog Rescue

Ottawa Dog Rescue Ottawa Dog Rescue is a foster-based organization dedicated to helping abandoned, abused, and surrendered dogs find well-matched forever homes.

We help dogs in need through partnerships with shelters and rescue groups across Canada and internationally. Ottawa Dog Rescue was founded in August 2013 by a group of dedicated dog-lovers and experienced rescuers. We are an all-breed, foster-based rescue in the nation’s capital who have dedicated ourselves to helping abandoned, abused and surrendered dogs find well suited forever homes within the Greater Ottawa area. Our mission is to be a transparent, accountable and professionally run non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing dogs at risk in the Ottawa area. We have a great team of committed volunteers, foster homes and local veterinarians to help us achieve our goals. All of our rescue dogs are provided with temporary foster home care until we find them well-matched and carefully screened forever homes. Along with rescue, we aim to educate by bringing awareness to responsible pet ownership and the importance of spay/neuter. Rescue is about saving lives, and we will do what it takes to do rescue right, because too many lives are lost due to a lack of public awareness and resources. We want to be part of the solution and will strive to make a difference one dog at a time. The rescue is organized as an Ontario and Federal non-profit charitable corporation #1899733. Our Charitable number is 83472 7232 RR0001.

NAME: Frank
AGE: 3 Years Old
BREED: Mixed Breed
SIZE: Medium (~45 lbs)

Remember Frank from earlier this year? ❤️
Unfortunately, Frank has had to come back into ODR's care and is now looking for a new forever home.

This handsome 3-year-old Iqaluit Special mix is fully housetrained and a total gentleman in the home. He can be left out of his crate when you’re away and stays calm and content, happily napping or supervising the neighbourhood from his favourite window ledge (yes, he sometimes acts more like a cat than a dog!).

Frank is quiet by nature but may let out an excited bark when he spots other dogs because he truly loves making new doggie friends. Although Frank loves his friends, he prefers to be the only dog in the home. He’s playful, social, loves the snow, and has a medium energy level. He is always up for a good walk, a game of fetch, or an enthusiastic belly rub session.

Frank has no medical concerns and is good on a leash but some work is still needed. He has a strong prey drive and enjoys sniffing out squirrels and rabbits on his adventures, so he’d thrive with an active family who appreciates his curious explorer spirit. He knows how to sit and is working hard on mastering other commands, especially recall. Friendly and affectionate, Frank loves being near his people and will happily climb, jump, and perch in funny places just to keep life interesting.

If you’re looking for a loyal companion who’s equal parts cuddle bug and backyard adventurer, Frank is ready to leap right into your heart!

Frank is up to date on core vaccinations, microchipped and neutered.

🍂 THANK YOU, KIWAN FARMS! 🍂

What a great day at the 8th Annual Kiwan Farms Fall Harvest Festival yesterday! A huge thank you to Kiwan Farms for having Ottawa Dog Rescue join you again this year. 🙏

Between the pumpkins, fall photo set, petting zoo, local vendors, food, fall favourites and everything else happening throughout the day, there was so much going on and such a great crowd.

And of course, we loved getting to introduce so many of our to everyone who stopped by to say hello. 🐶

Thank you to everyone who came out to visit us, chatted with our team, met the dogs, supported the rescue and helped make the day such a success.

And a very big thank you to our ODR volunteers and fosters who gave their time and kept everything running throughout the day. We could not do these events without you.

Thank you again, Kiwan Farms, and to all the vendors, for including us in such a fun fall tradition. 🍂🎃

NAME: Morene
AGE: 15 weeks old
BREED: Husky mix
SIZE: Puppy [expected to be Medium]

Hi! I’m Morene, a northern mixed breed with a BIG personality! My foster mom says I’m “sassy,” which is a polite way of saying I have plenty to say and I’m not afraid to talk back.

I LOVE to play, and I’m always ready for some fun! Just watch your toes—I think moving feet are very exciting and love to chase them. I’m also pretty talented at stealing slippers right off your feet, so you may want to keep those safely tucked away!

I’m working hard on my house training and manners. I’m not quite perfect yet, but I’m learning every day and, with some patience, consistency, and encouragement, I know I’ll get there.

I’m also a pretty vocal girl! I enjoy the occasional barking session and have no problem letting you know when I have something to say. My future family should be understanding of my chatty nature and ready to embrace my unique personality.

I’m full of energy and love having things to do. An active family who can keep me busy with walks, playtime, training, and plenty of exercise would be right up my alley. I can get a little overexcited around little humans, but I’m working on learning how to keep those big feelings under control.

If you’re looking for a fun, energetic, sassy girl who will keep you laughing (and possibly searching for your slippers), I might just be your girl!

Morene is up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and will be adopted on a spay contract.
