With the continuous implementation of National Action Plan for Unity, Peace, and Development (NAP-UPD) under the lead of National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), numbers of civilians have been constantly subject to threats, illegal arrests, enforced disappearances, torture, and killings. Hiding under the facade of their so-called inclusive peace and development goal, human rights violations continue to be committed in the Marcos Jr. government’s militarist mindset in its counter-insurgency operations. At the core of its policy is the non-distinction between dissenting civilians and armed revolutionaries, tagging them as “terrorists” and “enemies of the State.”
As 2026 marks Marcos Jr.’s’ fourth year in office, issues regarding corruption and persistent human rights violations remain unaddressed. While he shows himself to be empathetic with the people’s loss and suffering, his words will continue to be hollow without concrete actions amidst a culture of impunity, leaving the grieving families to fight for themselves as they persistently seek for justice and accountability.
Meanwhile, the fight between Kadiliman and Kasamaan has never been out of the limelight. Instead of addressing the real issues faced by the country, Marcoses and Dutertes are much busy with tearing down each others’ name to prove to the public that they are not what they are perceived to be. All for protecting their names, political agendas, and private interests and never for the welfare of the majority.
Furthermore, along with the consistent human rights violations committed, the use of public funds to cover counter-insurgency programs and confidential funds remains in question. As transparency and accountability persist to be absent, the situation faced by the majority is bound to stay the same with the worst intentions.
Ultimately, we shall rely on people’s collective action for truth and justice to be served.
