Our History:
The Oshawa S

enior Community Centres has a rich history in the City of Oshawa that began when the cornerstone was laid for the original Branch, 43 John Street in 1968. The community welcomed the social and activity opportunities when the Branch opened in 1969 and it quickly flourished as a hot spot for older adults to enjoy dances, bingo, birthday and anniversary celebrations; in the first year, 1,000 people became members. In 1973, the OSCC began offering affordable full meal services and by 1975 the building underwent a 13,000 square foot expansion to accommodate the growing participation levels. The OSCC began to recognize the need for additional out reach services. So, in 1977 Shut-In Senior Program Services, Day Programs and Consumer Conferences began. The City of Oshawa was growing and so was the OSCC opening their second Branch located within the Northview Community Centre in 1989. The demand for additional opportunities in programs, activities, education and art led to the OSCC further expanding, opening Legends Branch within the Legends Complex in 2006. The fourth Conant Branch of the OSCC opened their doors in October 2008 rounding out the placement of the OSCC in all four quadarants of the City. In 2018, the Sikiorski Branch was launched as temporary branch location with the vision of a permanent location to be developed with a new recreation facility in northwest Oshawa in the coming years. In 2019, the OSCC rebranded to the OSCC55+ - Oshawa Senior Community Centres with new logo, brand and tagline. Today, the OSCC55+ serves approximately 6,000 older adults and continues to be a cornerstone of the Oshawa community. Locations:

🌟 Fresh Faces Friday 🌟

Over the next several weeks, we’ll be showcasing our amazing students joining us this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs Program!

Meet Katie Westgate! 👋

Katie will be working with our Adult Day Program at the Conant Branch this summer. She grew up in Whitby and is currently studying Recreation Therapy at Durham College.

Katie has a big love for animals and, in her spare time, you’ll likely find her horseback riding, spending time with her 3 dogs and 4 cats, or out on the golf course ⛳🐴🐶🐱

She is excited to spend the summer with our Adult Day Program, gaining hands-on experience as she works toward her goal of building a career supporting seniors.

We’re so happy to have her on the team. Stay tuned for more Fresh Faces next Friday! 💙
