No Other Choice screens Monday April 6th at 4pm.

This was one of our programmer Fiona's favourite films of the last year. Timely topic, with a smart and entertaining script, some deliciously funny moments, all wrapped up stylishly by director Park Chan-wook and his creative team.

Here's a link to a great review by film critic Brian Tallerico.

It’s so easy to see all of the places where this unique gem could have gone wrong and so satisfying to see it only make good choices from beginning to end.

New film announcement. We will be closing our 2025-26 season on April 20th with the beautifully filmed THE SUMMER BOOK, starring Glenn Close.

Nine-year-old Sophia (Emily Matthews) spends the summers at her family’s seasonal home on a tranquil isle in the Gulf of Finland, but this will be the first summer without her mother. Her father (Anders Danielsen Lie) remains numbed by grief, while her grandmother (Glenn Close) guides her on a giddy, winding path towards young adulthood. With a sense of infinite possibility and a tender regard for the wonders of the natural world, Sophia and her grandmother explore the terrain, celebrate midsommar, and test the limits of faith in the face of life’s many storms. Adapted from Tove Jansson’s beloved novel, The Summer Book is a delicate account of growing up and growing old, beautifully filmed on 16mm in majestic natural light.

Thrilled to see Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value take the Oscar for Best International Feature Film. Beautifully written and directed, with superb acting from every actor, this was the film that kept many of you chatting in the lobby afterwards. If you didn’t manage to see it with us, you can now catch it streaming on Prime.

Three of the films we screened this season are in the running for awards at the 2026 Academy Awards this Sunday, March 15th.
Leading this list is SENTIMENTAL VALUE (with a fantastic 9 nominations), BLUE MOON (2 nominations - we think Ethan Hawke’s performance was amazing, and award-worthy!), and IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT (also 2 nominations)
It was a great year for film, and all the international feature films nominated are very worthy of a watch (if you’re one of our subtitled film fans)
Interestingly, there is a new category this year: Best Casting. We are still trying to figure out how SENTIMENTAL VALUE did not make the cut here, given every one of its actors is nominated for an award! A definite miss there.

If you fancy playing along on Sunday evening, and guessing who the winners might be, below is a printable ballot.
Share your thoughts afterwards and let us know how you did!

Use Vanity Fair’s interactive Oscar ballot to see the nominees, make your picks, and share them with your friends before the show on March 15.

Thanks to everyone who attended yesterday’s screening of THE CHORAL. Given the glorious almost summer-like weather we had, we are grateful that so many of you (241 patrons!) chose to spend a couple of those sunny hours inside a cinema with us. Thank you all for supporting our volunteer-run group, and for your love of film, the local community, and the arts in general.

Ahead of our screening of H Is For Hawk on March 23rd, have a listen to an interview with lead actor Claire Foy discussing the role.

After the sudden death of her father (Brendan Gleeson), Helen (Claire Foy) turns to the ancient art of falconry, training a wild goshawk named Mabel to help ...
