⚠️ A devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake has struck off the coast of Mindanao, Philippines.

More than 145,000 people have been affected - families have lost their homes, and entire communities have been left facing immense uncertainty. For some children, buildings collapsed around them on their very first day of school.

ShelterBox Philippines is already assessing the damage and preparing to support up to 3,000 families with emergency shelter and essential aid.

But the danger isn’t over. Over 200 aftershocks - some as strong as 6.5 magnitude - have continued to shake the region, with more expected. With emergency supplies pre-positioned in Cebu, we are ready to respond quickly.

A 7.8‑magnitude earthquake has struck Mindanao in the Philippines, forcing thousands of people to evacuate the area.

Our ShelterBox Philippines team is working to understand the situation. With emergency shelter supplies already pre‑positioned in Cebu, we’re ready to support families as aftershocks continue.

We’ve responded to earthquakes in the Philippines before, providing tarpaulins, shelter repair kits, solar lights, mosquito nets, blankets, and cash assistance so people can meet their own shelter needs.

You can help us be ready to respond. Donate today to support people affected by this earthquake and disasters around the world. 👉 https://shelterboxcanada.org/where-we-work/earthquake-in-the-philippines/

🌈 For many LGBTQIA+ people around the world, the simple act of being themselves is met with persecution and violence.

At ShelterBox, we believe everyone deserves safety, dignity, and the chance to rebuild, no matter who they are or who they love.

When crisis strikes – whether through conflict or disaster – LGBTQIA+ people are often among the most vulnerable, facing violence, exclusion, and dangerous conditions simply because of their identity. But crises do not discriminate, and neither do we.

No matter who you love or how you identify, our mission remains the same: no one without shelter after disaster.

A devastating fire in Dhaka has destroyed over 600 homes in the Kalshi informal settlement - leaving thousands of people without shelter.

With buildings packed closely together, the fire spread rapidly. Many families lost everything - their homes, belongings, and sources of income - in a matter of hours. An estimated 6,000 to 20,000 people have been affected.

Now, people are sleeping in open spaces, under bridges, and beside roads, exposed to extreme heat and unsafe conditions. Shelter is the most urgent need.

Together with ShelterBox's partner Uttaran- A Social Development Organization , we are one of the only humanitarian teams currently supporting affected families. We’ll be providing emergency shelter materials, essential items, and cash assistance to families with nowhere to live.

Donate today if you can 🙏

Atlantic hurricane season is almost here - the time of year when storms form across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.

As climate change fuels stronger, more destructive storms, millions of people are at risk of losing their homes. In the next 20 years, extreme storms could displace more than 200 million people.

At ShelterBox, we've responded to over 100 tropical storms, helping more than 80,000 people rebuild their lives.

The next big storm could strike at any moment. But together, we can make sure families have a safe place to shelter.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has released its forecast for the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

This year, experts are predicting around 12 named storms, including 6 hurricanes, and around 2 major hurricanes reaching Category 3 or stronger. While this number is slightly lower than what we saw last year, it doesn't mean less danger.

So, what is leading to the possibility of fewer storms in the Atlantic? El Niño.

El Niño is a natural climate pattern that simultaneously warms ocean waters in the Pacific and creates a stronger wind shear. This usually makes it harder for Atlantic hurricanes to form.

However, the Atlantic ocean is still warming from climate change, and warmer water fuels storms. This means when hurricanes do form, it will mean more rain, stronger winds, and increased flooding. Rising sea levels can also make storm surges more destructive. It only takes one hurricane making landfall to cause serious damage.

As climate change fuels stronger storms, millions of people are at risk of losing their homes. In the next 20 years, extreme storms could displace more than 200 million people. This makes preparing for storms and hurricane seasons more important than ever.

Did you know most displacement worldwide happens within countries – not across borders?

Internally-displaced people are those forced to flee their homes, but don't leave their own country.

Conflict, disaster, and crisis are driving internal displacement on a massive scale worldwide. Here’s what the latest data shows (2025) 💔👆

Being prepared before disaster strikes is key. By positioning aid closer to where it’s needed most, we can respond faster and more efficiently – saving time, money, and lives.

With the Atlantic hurricane season beginning on June 1st, we are prepared to support over 2,000 families if disaster strikes. Thanks to generous ShelterBox donors, we have aid stored in Panama and Barbados – locations that are close to the areas most at risk.

We also store aid in other strategic locations around the world, including in Ghana, Kenya, the UAE, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, and Belgium. This means we can be ready to send aid at a moment's notice.
