📍 Ethiopia project update

Thousands of families displaced by crisis in Ethiopia are living in overcrowded camps with limited access to everyday essentials.

In Debre Birhan, in Ethiopia's Amhara region, ShelterBox is supporting 3,300 people with vital household items, including bedding, kitchen sets, hygiene kits, tarpaulins and rope.

We're also working with our partner, Positive Action for Development (PAD), to help communities stay safe through fire safety training and awareness sessions. By training PAD staff and volunteers, they can then share this practical knowledge with community members, helping more people learn how to prevent fires, respond to emergencies and stay safe.

These photos show the training in action. Together, we're helping communities build the skills, knowledge and resilience they need to protect themselves and their loved ones.

Thank you to everyone who makes stories like these possible. 💚

Providing shelter after disaster looks different for every family.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach, which is why we listen to the communities we work with and tailor our support to their needs.

As humanitarian challenges continue to evolve, so do we, adapting and developing new shelter solutions to help people recover and rebuild. 💚

After the devastating double earthquake that struck Venezuela on 24 June, thousands of people were left without a safe place to stay. ShelterBox and Rotary are working together to help families rebuild.

In the early stages of the response, ShelterBox, Rotary, and IOM - UN Migration provided emergency shelter and essential aid, including tents, solar lights and mosquito nets, for displaced families living on temporary sites.

Now, the focus is on longer-term recovery. Together with Rotary in Venezuela, we're constructing around 650 transitional shelters using locally sourced building materials alongside tarpaulins and tools from ShelterBox's pre-positioned stock, helping families move beyond emergency shelter and begin rebuilding their lives.

As District Governor Yupnexa Rojas said:

"The strategic alliance between Rotary and ShelterBox in Venezuela has restored hope following the devastating double earthquake on 24 June. Through the creation of Rotary villages, they are providing secure shelter to more than 600 families who lost everything."

But this project is about more than shelter. Through community activities inspired by Rotary's Areas of Focus, it is helping to strengthen health, education, peacebuilding and local economic development, supporting communities as they recover and rebuild together.

Overall, the project is expected to reach around 1,100 households, helping families regain a sense of normality and the foundation they need to move forward.

Thank you to Rotary members in Venezuela and around the world for helping families in Venezuela rebuild their homes, their communities and their futures.

💚 Meet Ambiya, a grandmother raising her four grandchildren in Somalia. After years of uncertainty, she finally has a place to call home.

Like millions of people across Somalia, Ambiya's life was turned upside down by conflict, drought and poverty. Forced to flee her home with her family, she spent four years living in a displacement camp, sheltering beneath torn plastic sheets and cloth that offered little protection from the weather, theft or animals.

As the sole provider for her family, Ambiya did everything she could to survive. She earned what little she could through basket weaving, washing clothes and cleaning potato sacks at the market, often bringing home just enough to get through the day.

With support from ShelterBox and our partner Juba Foundation, Ambiya received a safe shelter, solar lights, blankets, sleeping mats and tools to help her family rebuild.

"Receiving the shelter transformed our lives. After spending years living in a fragile makeshift shelter, we finally had a safe home and a chance to start over."

Today, Ambiya can leave home to search for work knowing her belongings will still be there when she returns. After years of uncertainty, she finally has the security, stability and peace of mind every family deserves.

Thank you to everyone who has helped make stories like these possible. 🙏

In the wake of devastating flash floods in Nepal, more than 85,000 people are facing the difficult reality of life after disaster.

ShelterBox is working with local partners to provide emergency shelter and essential aid. Alongside Islamic Relief Nepal, Rotary International in Nepal, and People in Need, we've already distributed tarpaulins, sleeping mats, ropes and pillows to hundreds of households, supporting around 1,000 families.

Family tents, solar lights, thermal blankets and winterization kits have also reached Nepal. With roads damaged and bridges collapsed, helicopters are helping deliver aid to isolated communities.

This support is helping families create safer places to sleep, stay protected from the elements and prepare for the colder months ahead.

ShelterBox Canada extends our deepest thanks to Aama Nepalese Cuisine, the Rotary Club of Cochrane, every sponsor, volunteer, donor, participant, and community member who helped make the Momothon: Trek to Everest fundraiser such an incredible success. What began as a local initiative to support people affected by devastating flooding in Nepal grew into an inspiring demonstration of generosity, compassion, and community spirit.

Cochrane's support far surpassed the original goal to raise $50,000, bringing in over $125,000!! 🎉 Thanks to you, families displaced in Nepal will receive the shelter and essential items they need as they begin to rebuild their lives.

From all of us at ShelterBox Canada: thank you for turning hope into action and making a real difference for families in Nepal. 💚

Your dose of good news from around the world 💚

09/24/2026

💚 We're incredibly grateful to Aama Nepalese Cuisine and co-founder Tara Poudel for their inspiring Momothon Trek to Everest, a fundraising effort supporting ShelterBox's response to the flooding in Nepal.

Just days after celebrating Aama's fourth anniversary, Tara learned that parts of the very highway she travelled home from school in Kathmandu had been washed away. With winter approaching and thousands of people displaced, she knew more support was urgently needed.

With support from the Rotary Club of Cochrane, Tara quickly created the Momothon Trek to Everest, a 13 milestone journey around Cochrane filled with good food and the chance to make a difference. On October 3rd, community members are invited to join the trek, participate in an auction filled with unique prizes, and make a donation to support people in need.

As Tara says, "I hope our collective effort... will make a meaningful difference in the lives of all who have lost everything in the flood."

Thank you to everyone supporting this inspiring initiative and helping families in Nepal recover and rebuild. 🙏
