1st AFC Scouts Group

1st AFC Scouts Group A Muslim Scouting Group from Oakville, Ontario. How can we prepare our youth to become active, contributing members of society?

1st Al-Falah Islamic Centre (1st AFC) Scout Group

Al-Falah Islamic Centre is proud to be home to the first Muslim Scout group in the western GTA. Since October 2009, the 1st AFC Scout Group has been meeting every Tuesday evening, offering a dynamic and engaging program where youth learn outdoor, leadership, and team-building skills in a fun, hands-on environment. Now in its thirteenth year, the

group includes the following youth sections:

Cub Scouts (ages 8–10)

Scouts (ages 11–14)

Venturers (ages 15–17)

Rovers (ages 18+)

Scouting — and specifically Muslim Youth Scouting — is part of an international movement that began in 1907 and now includes over 28 million youth and adults in more than 160 countries, including many Muslim-majority nations. In Canada alone, over 100,000 youth and volunteers participate in Scouts Canada programs, making it the nation’s premier youth-serving organization. At Al-Falah Centre, community members asked:

What programs can we offer Muslim youth to help them grow as confident, responsible individuals? Which programs nurture both personal growth and spiritual development? These questions inspired the creation of the 1st AFC Scout Group, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to the holistic development of young Muslims. Scouting’s three main principles — duty to God, duty to others, and duty to self — align perfectly with Islamic values. The movement’s mission is “to contribute to the education of young people… to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.”

Through Scouting, our youth learn practical skills, environmental stewardship, teamwork, and service. Activities include:

Camping, hiking, and outdoor cooking

Tree planting and environmental clean-ups

Orienteering and survival skills

Community service and volunteer projects

First aid, leadership, and communication skills

Praying together and learning respect, discipline, and empathy

At its heart, the 1st AFC Scout Group is about building character, serving the community, and caring for creation — all while having fun!
