from The North Shore Pride Alliance

While we were on our annual winter hiatus, recent comments by BC MLA Tara Armstrong were brought to our attention. We believe it’s important to respond clearly and publicly.

North Shore Pride Alliance stands in solidarity with Pride organizations across British Columbia in regards to the Human Rights Code and the protections it guarantees for ALL people.
As representatives of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities in North and West Vancouver, we remain committed to protecting the dignity, safety, and equality of every British Columbian.

The North Shore Pride Alliance and the Vancouver Whitecaps FC have been long-time partners in Pride... Our co-founders have worked with the ‘Caps for years to help bring vibrant Pride celebrations to life for our community. 💖

Now we are extra excited as the ‘Caps head to their first-ever MLS Cup after a huge 3–1 win over San Diego FC for the Western Conference title.

On Saturday, our team face Inter Miami CF at 11:30 am (PST) live on Apple TV & TSN.

Every year on November 20th, the Transgender Day of Remembrance honours the members of our community whose lives have been taken by anti-trans violence and hatred.

Many of us know all too well the constant struggle to defend our rights and our very existence.

At a time when individuals, public figures, political groups, and even entire nations attempt to erase transgender people—often through devastating acts—it becomes even more crucial to remember those we’ve lost and to continue pushing for justice.

We remember and honour our 2SLGBTQ+ armed forces veterans who gave their lives to fight for our freedom — while many were forced to hide their true, authentic selves.
Until 1992, being gay in the military was not accepted, yet countless brave individuals still served with courage, loyalty, and pride.
Remembrance Day (November 11th) is the day our country remembers and honours all who fought for freedom.
Let us not forget those in WWI and WWII who, despite being criminalized for their sexuality, stood strong beside their comrades, King, Queen and Canada.

Yesterday, The North Shore Pride Alliance was proud to represent the North Shore at a press conference with The Honourable Rechie Valdez, Minister for Women and Gender Equality.

Minister Valdez shared updates on the federal government’s 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan and reaffirmed support for gender equality and ending gender-based violence.

Pride organizations from across the Lower Mainland, including our team, were present to discuss challenges facing our communities with one another.

We were grateful for the opportunity to share the progress being made across the North Shore and to ensure our region’s voices were heard at the national level.
