🧡 September 30 | National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As the Millbrook & Cavan Historical Society, we believe understanding our community’s history means recognizing the stories that began long before the villages, roads and farms familiar to us today.
Cavan Monaghan is situated on Treaty 20 Michi Saagiig territory, within the traditional territory of the Michi Saagiig Anishnaabeg. Our local history is connected to the Indigenous communities that have cared for these lands for generations, including nearby Hiawatha, Curve Lake and Alderville First Nations, members of the Williams Treaties First Nations.
On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, their families and their communities.
As a Historical Society, we also recognize our responsibility to continue learning, preserving and sharing a fuller history of the lands and communities we call home.
Today, we remember. We reflect. We listen. We learn. 🧡
