What keeps volunteers coming back? Often, it comes down to two things: knowing their time matters and feeling genuinely appreciated.

One quote from our latest blog says it all: “No one knew or used my name nor did anyone ever acknowledge or thank me for coming in. I don’t volunteer there anymore.”

Research by Trent University student Anna Hykawy shows that recognition, connection, flexibility, and clear communication all play a major role in creating positive volunteer experiences. Even small gestures, like learning someone’s name or simply saying thank you, can make a lasting difference.

We loved stopping by the new Canadian Blood Services clinic at Lansdowne Place and meeting two of the volunteers who help make the donor experience so welcoming. ❤️

Ron has been volunteering for 20 years and is known for bringing in ice cream from Central Smith Creamery, while Sharon found the opportunity through Volunteer Peterborough and loves being able to give back.

The new clinic is still looking for volunteers to help serve snacks, support donors, and fill occasional shifts. A great opportunity to get involved and make a difference in your community!

We’re seeking an organized, detail oriented volunteer to help support our membership committee and keep our organization records running smoothly.

This role involves helping Volunteer Peterborough keep membership information organized and up to date. You’ll track payments, update records in Stripe and WordPress, review new organization users and opportunity posts, and stay in touch with member organizations to offer support and follow up on how their postings are performing. You may also help coordinate online training sessions, communicate any issues or changes to the team, attend monthly or bi-monthly committee meetings, and support organizations in identifying useful measures of success.

This is a great fit for someone who is comfortable with business software, has strong attention to detail, and understands or is interested in the non-profit sector.

Your support will help Volunteer Peterborough maintain an important source of income, strengthen our services, and make membership easier for local volunteer organizations.

*please note this is a volunteer position.
