The Medicine Hat Rotary Club was delighted to welcome Dr. Deborah Forbes to our meeting today. Deborah is the Executive Director of the LEARN program at MH College and spoke about several new initiatives such as Imagination Alive and Streetfolk Stories. LEARN is a community adult learning council, that builds partnerships to provide learning opportunities for adult foundational learners and their families. An inspirational talk, thanks Deborah. We also managed to pass our annual budget finally, so it was a busy meeting.

Our very own Kitt Brand took the podium today, to speak about the Rotary humanitarian projects underway in the Ukraine. She spoke about the rehabilitation centres and medical facilities, as well as mental health work associated with the children of the Ukraine. An emotional presentation for everyone involved. Thanks to Kitt and Alain for their work on this.

The Rotary Club welcomed Natalie Sauer back to our meeting. Natalie was the skilled chairperson of the recent Canadian Summer Special Olympics event in Medicine Hat. She reviewed a number of the successes, some of the learnings and thanked a number of Rotarians who helped (with 1000’s of others) make this event a big success. Great work Natalie.

Sorry I missed the fund development meeting Monday, but I was getting an award from a Saskatchewan group called Blackexcellence for my work on racism and early black settlement in Saskatchewan and Alberta.

The club had a great discussion on fundraising led by Alain, Gail and Tarek. It was wide ranging and informative, and will hopefully lead to some creative solutions. Thanks to all who participated.

The 16-year-old female reported missing from Fraser Lake, British Columbia (believed to be in Alberta) on September 9, 2026 has been located safely.
