Our Law Studies 12 students took their learning beyond the classroom with a visit to Surrey Provincial Court last week! ⚖️

After completing their module on crimes and legal remedies and conducting their first mock trial, students had the opportunity to observe the justice system in action.

The visit began with an orientation from the Justice Education Society (JES), which has partnered with Mr. Ketchum over the past five years to bring quality legal education resources into the course. Students then sat in on various court proceedings and heard from a criminal defence lawyer and one of BC’s top sheriffs, who brought the experience to life with stories from the field and a look at his professional gear.

Our Grade 3A students took their creativity outdoors with a field trip to Osprey Village! 🍂

Walking along the river trail, students collected natural materials to create their own radial symmetry art inspired by artist Andy Goldsworthy, known for creating beautiful artwork using elements found in nature.

By looking closely at the shapes, colours, textures, and patterns around them, students discovered how art and creation intersect in unexpected ways.

A wonderful day of exploring, creating, and finding beauty in God’s creation! 🌿

70 YEARS, 70 STORIES 💙 | Story 5/70

What has stayed the same at MRCS over the past 19 years?

For our Lead Principal, Mr. Quentin Flokstra, the answer is a deep sense of community.

From his early days as a high school Humanities teacher to his years in administration, Quentin has witnessed MRCS grow and change. Yet, through every season, the connection, shared values, and hope to see every student thrive have remained at the heart of our school.

As Quentin shares, alumni, parents, grandparents, students, and friends of MRCS continue to say that “MRCS feels like home.”

As we celebrate 70 years, we're reminded that while a school may grow and change, it's the people, relationships, and shared purpose that make it what it is.

We're grateful for Quentin's leadership and for everyone who has helped make MRCS home for generations of families. 💙

Last week, our Grand Hall was filled with opportunities for the future! 💙

MRCS was pleased to host the Canadian Christian Universities Fair, giving our high school students the chance to connect with representatives from Christian universities across Canada, explore post-secondary pathways, and ask questions about what comes next.

We love creating opportunities for students to discover how God has uniquely gifted them and how they can use those gifts in their next season of learning and growth.

Thank you to the universities who joined us and invested in the futures of our students!

This Thanksgiving, we give thanks to the One who provides, sustains, and fills our lives with good things. 💙

Psalm 107:8-9 reminds us to give thanks to the Lord for His unfailing love and the wonderful things He has done.

As a school community, we are grateful for the students, families, staff, and relationships that make MRCS such a special place to learn and grow. May we continue to recognize God’s goodness in both the big moments and the everyday blessings.

Two weeks ago, we welcomed our newest MRCS families to our New Parent Information Night! 💙

Our library was packed as families gathered to learn more about our school, ask questions, meet members of our community, and take those first steps into life at MRCS.

And what a special year to be joining us as we celebrate 70 years of faith, learning, and community! 🎉

We’re so grateful to welcome these families into our story as we celebrate where we’ve come from and look ahead to where God is leading us next.

For our international students, joining a new school can mean leaving behind home, family, and everything familiar.

For Karen Bowering, our International Program Coordinator, it’s the small moments of kindness, connection, and welcome that can make MRCS feel like home.

A smile in the hallway. A new friend at lunch. A helping hand before it’s even requested.

As Karen says, “the kindness and inclusion offered by MRCS staff, students and families is how the love of Christ is expressed to newcomers.”
