On behalf of the Canadian Bhutanese Society of Lethbridge (CBS Lethbridge), we are deeply saddened to share the passing of our respected community elder, Gori Maya Magar, on March 24, 2026.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, relatives, and loved ones during this very difficult time. Gori Maya Magar was more than a family member; she was a valued elder in our community whose presence carried warmth, wisdom, and quiet strength. Her life reflected resilience, compassion, and a deep connection to our culture and traditions. She will always be remembered for her gentle nature and the respect she earned from everyone around her.

As a community, we feel this loss together. Elders like her are the foundation of our identity, guiding us with their experiences and keeping our traditions alive even far from home. Her absence will be deeply felt in our gatherings, our conversations, and the unity we share as a Bhutanese and Nepali community in Lethbridge.

We kindly invite all community members, relatives, and friends to join in paying their final respects. Namaskar,

With profound sorrow, the Canadian Bhutanese Society shares the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved community member, Mrs. Geeta Dhakal, on February 1, 2026, while receiving care in Palliative Care. Her departure leaves a silence that words cannot fully hold, and a space in our community that will not be easily filled.

Born on May 2, 1947, Mrs. Geeta Dhakal was the eldest daughter of the late Narad Poudel and mother, Gaura Poudel. She was born in Gongbusti, Bongkhasmal, Harshalal Dixit Road, Kalengpong, India. Throughout her life, she carried a quiet strength and warmth that comforted those around her. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Madhusudan Dhakal; her three daughters, Indira Sharma, Krishna Katel, and Kamala Adhikari; her son, Manoj Dhakal; and her daughter-in-law, Melina Chapagai. She also leaves behind her three granddaughters, Dixita Dhakal, Janavi Sharma, and Eliza Katel, who were a source of great pride and joy in her life. Since 2010, she has made Lethbridge her home, and her presence has become part of our community's shared heartbeat.

The funeral service is scheduled for February 5, 2026, at 9:30 AM at the Cornerstone Funeral Home. We humbly invite family, friends, and community members to join in honouring her life, offering prayers, and paying final respects as we stand together in support of her loved ones.

During this difficult time, we also wish to express our gratitude for the community’s outpouring of love and support. We ask that community members continue to offer their support through contributions. These can be made to any CBS board member, Ghanashyam Subedi, or via e-transfer to [email protected]. Please include your full name for acknowledgment.

On behalf of the Canadian Bhutanese Society, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. May you find strength in each other, comfort in shared memories, and peace in knowing that her love, sacrifices, and the goodness she planted in others will continue to live on. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

With deep respect and heartfelt sympathy,
Canadian Bhutanese Society

We are sharing this GoFundMe for Prakash Regmi, a valued member of our community who is facing an unimaginable challenge. After a workplace accident, Prakash was diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a severe and debilitating neurological condition that has left him in constant pain and unable to work, despite clear medical support. With limited options and long delays for effective treatment in Canada, his only real chance at recovery is fast-tracked, specialized care abroad. This is time-sensitive, and early treatment matters. If you’re able, please consider donating or simply sharing his story. Even small acts of support can make a meaningful difference for Prakash, his wife, and their three children. Let’s come together as a community and help give him a fighting chance to reclaim his life. 🙏

Public Safety Notice: Important Community Alert
Canadian Bhutanese Society of Lethbridge
Dear Members,
We would like to inform all members of the Canadian Bhutanese community in Lethbridge about recent reports of theft incidents targeting individuals wearing valuable jewelry such as gold or silver necklaces, rings, earrings, and wallets. In these cases, the suspects reportedly observe individuals from a distance and follow them until they find an opportunity when the person is alone. They may approach in a friendly manner, claiming to celebrate a cultural or religious festival, and offer “blessings” or “sacred gifts” such as threads, jewelry, or rings. During this interaction; often involving physical contact like hugging or placing items on the person, they discreetly remove valuable belongings without the victim noticing until it is too late.
We strongly advise all community members to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with unfamiliar individuals offering unexpected items or blessings, regardless of how respectful or convincing they appear. If you encounter such behavior, maintain a safe distance, decline the offer politely, and report the incident immediately to local law enforcement. Your awareness and caution are vital in preventing further incidents. Please share this information with family, friends, and neighbors to help keep our community safe.
Stay alert, stay safe, and stay informed.
