At Chrysalis House, we provide transitional shelter, a 24-hour support line, and outreach services in a non-judgmental, empowering environment.

We serve women and their children fleeing various forms of abuse in West Hants, Kings, and Annapolis Counties. Chrysalis House provides safe shelter, support and counseling to abused women and their children. We work with individuals, organization and businesses in our community to end violence against women. Chrysalis House is located in Kentville, Nova Scotia. We serve the
communities of Kings, Annapolis, and Hants County. Our shelter operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. There are absolutely NO FEES for service to women and their children who seek our shelter for help. Public education and community development are also important elements of our Association.

The manosphere is a network of online communities that often promote misogyny, rigid gender roles, and harmful beliefs about women, relationships, and power.

Repeated exposure can normalize disrespect, entitlement, and controlling behaviours.

Recognizing these messages is an important step in building relationships rooted in respect, equality, and consent.

Honouring someone’s pronouns is one of the simplest, most powerful ways to say: I see you. I respect you. You're safe here.

To ask about someone's pronouns, you can respectfully ask:
“My name is Sally and my pronouns are she/her. What about you?”
"What pronouns do you prefer?"
"How would you like to be addressed pronoun-wise?"

On Persons Day, we honour the Famous Five trailblazers who fought for women to be recognized as “persons” under Canadian law in 1929. Their victory was a turning point, but not the finish line. We carry their legacy forward by continuing the fight for equity, safety, and justice for all women and girls.

Through mobile outreach, better digital access, strong community networks, trauma-informed care, and the power of sharing stories, we can create safer, more supportive pathways forward.

Many survivors of intimate partner violence are unaware that head and facial injuries can lead to brain injuries. As a result, they may not seek the medical care they need.

On Purple Thursday, we raise awareness about the intersection between intimate partner violence and brain injury so that survivors receive the compassionate care and assistance they need to heal.
