Chrysalis House Association

Chrysalis House Association At Chrysalis House, we provide transitional shelter, a 24-hour support line, and outreach services in a non-judgmental, empowering environment.

We serve women and their children fleeing various forms of abuse in West Hants, Kings, and Annapolis Counties. Chrysalis House provides safe shelter, support and counseling to abused women and their children. We work with individuals, organization and businesses in our community to end violence against women. Chrysalis House is located in Kentville, Nova Scotia. We serve the
communities of Kings,

Annapolis, and Hants County. Our shelter operates 24 hours a day 365 days a year. There are absolutely NO FEES for service to women and their children who seek our shelter for help. Public education and community development are also important elements of our Association.

Coercive control is about power, not love.
It can look like controlling where you go, who you see, your phone, or your money. Even without physical violence, it’s abuse.

Healthy relationships are built on trust, respect, and freedom, not fear.

You deserve safety, respect, and control over your own life.

Healing is a revolutionary act.

Here are some ways to choose healing today:
β€’ Take time for yourself without guilt
β€’ Set healthy boundaries with others
β€’ Talk to a trusted friend or mentor
β€’ Practice mindfulness, meditation, or journaling
β€’ Create art, listen to music, or write
β€’ Move your body through a walk, dance, or yoga
β€’ Seek professional support
β€’ Celebrate small wins and progress
β€’ Help others (only when it feels safe & sustainable)

Take the time you need. Heal at your pace. And know that by caring for yourself, you are creating change.

Prevention is about awareness, action, and challenging harmful norms:
β€’ Recognizing early warning signs
β€’ Checking in with someone you’re concerned about
β€’ Challenging gender stereotypes
β€’ Teaching safe & healthy relationship skills
β€’ Supporting economic empowerment
β€’ Educating on consent
β€’ Promoting respectful media portrayals
β€’ Breaking inter-generational cycles of violence

At Chrysalis House, we believe everyone has a role in creating safer, healthier communities.
