🚨 New science alert 🚨 Last month, a paper was published that revealed 954 km2 of critical Southern Mountain Caribou habitat has been logged in British Columbia since the beginning of 2020. This is ON TOP of the 909 km2 that was logged in the five years prior.
To put this into perspective for you, 954 km2 is the equivalent of roughly 133,500 soccer fields. Imagine that for a moment: vast swathes of old and primary forests that took hundreds, perhaps thousands of years to grow, destroyed overnight.

Our government knows these forests are essential to the survival and recovery of Southern Mountain Caribou, a federally-listed threatened species, yet it allows this destruction to continue.
We’re working hard to stop that - both in court, with our lawyers at Ecojustice, and on the ground every day. Until midnight July 31, every donation to this work up to $5k are being matched dollar-for-dollar.
Please give generously today. Link in bio.

We are so excited to announce that Wildsight Invermere’s own defender of the wild, Baiba Morrow has been recognized for a lifetime of environmental stewardship and conservation leadership and presented the Ellen Zimmerman Award. Presented annually by Wildsight, the Ellen Zimmerman Award recognizes a woman who has made outstanding contributions to environmental conservation and education in the Upper Columbia Basin. The award honours the legacy of the late Ellen Zimmerman, a tireless advocate for the Columbia Wetlands, women’s rights and future generations.

Baiba spent 12 years as president of Wildsight Invermere. Notable amongst her countless achievements, Baiba helped spearhead the Wild & Scenic Film Festival (our branch’s biggest annual fundraiser, now in its 13th year), supported the restoration of an abused local recreational lake, as well as quietly recruited an entire new generation of volunteers. She also served on Wildsight’s regional board for multiple years.

Baiba is an instrumental member of Wildsight Invermere and our work wouldn’t be possible without the path she carved & her ongoing advocacy to defend the wild.
