SUCCESS STORY 🎉

After eight years with the same department store, Brenda found herself unexpectedly unemployed when it closed in October 2025. Living in a rural area with limited job opportunities, she felt uncertain about job searching for the first time in nearly three decades. As a mature worker with little experience using computers or cell phones, the process felt overwhelming, and concerns about ageism added to her hesitation.

Connecting with WorkBC Centre Invermere became a turning point. Through ongoing case management, Brenda received hands‑on support with resumes, cover letters, interview skills, and digital literacy. Together with her Employment Consultant, she created her first email account, learned to use a cell phone, practiced mock interviews, and identified her transferable skills. The personalized support helped ease her nerves and steadily build her confidence.

Today, Brenda is working part-time as a sales associate at Dollarama, meeting her goal of sustainable employment that fits her lifestyle. More importantly, she has gained confidence and new skills she never thought she would have. Brenda no longer worries about looking for work.

“I have the confidence that I can do things out of my comfort level. Being a senior isn’t a disadvantage.”
